My reading is that entering Thailand with + 6 months on pp. Then taking a side trip (eg Vietnam) and returning to Thailand with less than 6 months on pp. Then flight home. Thailand unlike many countries does not have the "6 months rule" The issue is that many airlines do

Good question. OP if your second entry to Thailand is a visa exempt with less than 6 months on your passport any issue will not be with Thai immigration on landing. The issue would/might be with airline at departure. A copy of onward flight out of Thailand thinking would satisfy airline.

Like your post. LTR perhaps suits some folk however similar to yourself I have just placed the 800k in Thai bank and leave it there. Don't give it a second thought. Annual extensions are simple and use appointment option. In future when mobility becomes an issue, I will switch to agent. Everyone has options that suit their situation. Credit to Thailand for providing those options. I'm sure some folk will continue to view PE visa as a good option especially for those some years under 50. Basically a flop out the cash ...deal done.

They wouldn't need it. The passport would show entry date into Thailand using visa exempt. Also exit date from Thailand at land border. Then what...turn around (border bounce) and reenter with the eVisa. That printed eVisa would have an issue date. Personally think the eVisa has not be thought through.

No. You need to be 50+. The rest of your post is correct. Many folk with non O retirement extensions have income from abroad. Or are digital nomads etc

There will be now. Not everyone qualifies for LTR. A PE visa is just a price tag. They are not happy with overstays but otherwise it's simple process.
