  1. If your phone has NFC capability you can read your passport chip and see exactly what it contains. As already mentioned, that's the info from the data page and a digital image of the photo. The specification allows for additional biometric data like fingerprints and eye scan but these do not appear to be widely used (yet). There is no reference to previous passport numbers stored on the chip, or any other data that you can't see by looking at the passport itself.
  2. It's more detail than an end of year balance and it applies to anyone deemed a "Reportable Person". If (and I think it's unlikely) Thailand decide you need a TIN, then you become a "Reportable Person".
  3. Both countries are participants in the Common Reporting Standard which means an annual transfer of data detailing bank account activity.
  4. I'm not telling anyone to change, just raising awareness of another option. It could just be kept as a backup for when Wise doesn't work, and a new player often has some special offers. I frequently used Xendpay as an alternative before their demise as they kept offering fee free transfers to entice me back, which made them a better deal.
  5. New player for anyone looking for an alternative or just as backup. Only seen one report so far that it was more expensive then Wise but it's early days. App available for Apple and Android phones but doesn't appear to have web access for transfers. I can't sign up fully as I'm not in the UK and it couldn't verify my address using means other than my phones location. Will try again when I get back next. https://www.altfi.com/article/exclusive-hsbc-s-new-fintech-app-zing-built-on-monese-s-platform
  6. The information from your UK bank will be available to the Thai authorities but whether they have the resource or inclination to do anything with it is another matter.
  7. This link is appearing in my notification screen as one I've posted in before and has new posts but is now giving an error message saying I don't have permission to view the topic. Can someone explain? https://aseannow.com/topic/1241749-thai-immigration-online-90-day-reporting-system/
  8. I'm sure you realised my comment was tongue in cheek, but in response the bit you quoted refers to not using social media sources without a link. Rule 5 may have been better given the post content: 5. You will not use ASEAN NOW to post any material which is knowingly or can be reasonably construed as false, inaccurate, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. Topics or posts deemed to be scaremongering, deliberately misleading or which deliberately distort information will be removed. In factual areas such as news forums and current affairs topics member content that is claimed or portrayed as a fact should be supported by a link to a relevant reputable source. I submit that this comes under the "In factual areas such as news forums and current affairs topics" banner (my emphasis)?
  9. I appreciate the distinction but the only difference in most cases is it goes from a lousy idea to a really lousy idea IMO.
  10. Forum rules require no such thing. Here's a link to prove it. ;) https://aseannow.com/terms/
  11. To save everyone repeating themselves, have a look at this thread which was just started a few days. Apart from the odd outlier the resounding answer is no - don't do it, with lots of valid reasons why not. https://aseannow.com/topic/1316003-buy-a-condo-to-airbnb-is-it-really-profitable/
  12. Laptop/PC access is via the ibanking internet portal. I read ianguygil's post as referring to mbanking using the app to be available on one device only.
  13. Agreed Deemoney are not a bank but a transfer partner, although Wise themselves refer to all three as "bank partners". I have never seen a pdf receipt showing SCB being used as a partner and they are not listed on Wise's website as one. If you have one I'd be interested to see it and update my knowledge. From Wise.com
  14. These are the three banks where you can send 50,000 THB or over too, but their partners for transferring are BBL, Kasikorn and Deemoney. Used to be TMB too but they're no longer in the mix.
  15. Another good reason to keep it is as evidence if you have to retro-claim frequent flyer miles/points.
  16. Long stay in Thailand or buying property. Not guaranteed as they have a disclaimer on their website but I haven't heard many (any?) reports of it going wrong recently. Always wise to have a backup for any method in case something goes wrong. ETA: Only to Kasikorn and Bangkok Bank I think.
  17. Try here: https://aseannow.com/notifications/options/ I think it comes under "Mentions & My Content".
  18. Not all purely domestic airlines. P80 Air plan to fly to China and RC Airline to Japan, China and more.
  19. According to an article from 5 years ago in the newspaper we can't quote, there are 22 IDCs in Thailand.
  20. But better to prevent them being stolen rather than tracking them down after, hence the visible markings.
  21. The OP requires something to receive 2FA codes from the USA.
  22. No. It used to be the case that Gold or equivalent status would see you issued with a fast track pass on most airlines. These were done away with years ago and if you turn up without a Business or First Class boarding pass you'll be turned away by the Immigration Officer unless you meet one of the other criteria for using these lanes (pregnant, over 70, monk etc).
  23. This "new" system would potentially free up officers to help the flow of tourists through the airport.
