I don't bother to linger around with those who are like that, except for short time. Phangan is like a private quiet island 27 days a month, just 10-20K people who come a few days around full moon but you do not even have to notice those, if you stay away from the specific areas they always go.

You talk about Pattaya, which is like the only place in entire Thailand where you can get a 10-20 baht baht bus. Many places it would cost easily 1000 baht round way if taking a taxi, and some places there won't even be transport home, unless it is your own bike.

You don't really need skills or experience to get trough that training and do that job. It is all about looks and some language skill. Essentially is like working at a catering company but then in the air, aside of a few other procedures that are repeated each flight.

Yeah I noticed that too in various places in Thailand, seems to be exactly that. Even on one of the islands I can see how much bread is left over at the end of the day while it used to be nearly sold out. They even try to sell bread of the day before and putting the ones of today behind the old ones, not falling for that trick hehe. Anyway, wish all of those shops stopped selling the crappy bread, if there are ''potential shortages'' the rule should be to only be allowed making quality products. Bread in holland could last a few days, here it is poor within 12 hours already lol.
