Disagree, I always book a 1-day stay in a 3-4 star hotel on the first night only as I can easily find a better deal in person right after. Basically as reception is often helpful, starting off in a central A location etc.

After a good year of moving to various places and having BKK as a temporary home base, I finally got my misses to accept Chiang Mai for the long haul. Will buy a cheap home that is paid off in 5 years time, schools aren't too expensive and I know every place and soi too. So I guess, will still be quite happy again soon, specially as it both saves me money short term as well long term. I could survive a 65% slash of income in case more bad things are happening over the next couple of years.

I doubt this will change, might be 7 days in the future but certainly not 'at home'. Thais would cheat.

They basically told the OP that he no longer needs 40K a month or 400K in the bank, so instead you can make returns on that capital now. 20K isn't that expensive either and the usual price, you should ask if that includes a multi entry lol as no agent is taking a cut already.

I'd leave my condo if i wasn't allowed visitors, specially at this stage. Personally not experienced any trouble at friends their places all tho pool and gym is limited to like 2-4 pax only.

Anyone knows the booster shots are for next year, they only delay that in western countries for now because that creep at WEF said we first need to give poor countries their first shots. For Thailand it's already known too they do 3 shots minimum for the vast majority vaccinated so far, as they have 2x sinovac. So even a big chance for needing 4 here over time. It's very simple, Thailand does it and if they don't, they will be back on all red lists to still do so. To know the future you simply look at Israel, Australia. Canada follows, then USA, then Europe, then the rest. It always goes in that order. People doubted the second shot too at starters.

Or even if they are not, they often only cover a small amount for actual medical cost, which would be 50x higher if anything serious. And then hoping they payout when many people get this.

Until the booster shots come out and be mandatory, then immigration will check if you updated your vaxx with no. 4/5/6/7/8/29/30. All planned for early next year already.

I understand now why they want rich tourists, if you get tested positive, even you got your double vaxx, you end up with 150K + hospital bills.

If you prefer to also risk and actually die, that is the only cheap alternative, even you would still lose 30-50K in that case. They didn't have much choice, they were sent to international hospital that was most near by. Again bear in my mind, they had zero to mild symptoms, if it actually went bad, the bill must have been near a million. Could bankrupt people, specially teachers that not earn that much. I am no longer going to advice people coming to Thailand as long this continues.

Update from my side, my friend with wife and kid just got released after lock up with little to no symptoms and presented the bill: 380K baht. Another farang who did it alone paid 150K baht. Both were vaccinated.

For the extension based on a Thai child you usually also need the pictures together, thai mother id card, thai mother house book copy, child house book copy, thai child birth certificate. I believe it requires additional steps or a minimum age of 7 or something to do it without the mother. To be recognized as the father I believe you needed to be married when the child was born, just the birth certificate with name is not enough. Regardless to anything, its cheaper and easier if you can make a deal with the mother directly I guess.

Agree to that but I think it is wise the OP at least thinks about it, just like with even minor car accidents, costs can easily run up to 100-150K and many people arrive here teaching or backpacking with no access to such resources (directly). I'd say that it is really needed to be able to get up to 150K cash in your hands guaranteed, in case of emergencies, minimum, while in Thailand. Having that amount directly available can prevent bigger issues too in case of being extorted or other crazy events, that do happen from time to time. Some are lucky for 2 decades, other get bad luck within their first week, for me it was after 9 years.

That is what happened with my friend wife, kid too and he is even double vaccinated and just came from Phuket a month earlier lol. Regarding to my wife also said that she couldn't get me in the insurance that she did manage to get for herself and my son.
