Why do people still deny the Holocaust ever happened
KhunLA replied to Rimmer's topic in Off the beaten track
Which one To the implied topic ... hard to deny, though not sure I believe the numbers (6M) constantly repeated. Or the need for the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly reminder. Doubt if I can comment any further. -
One of my dogs died suddenly. Lost a fight with a truck. Idiot GF let her out of the house without being on leash. Only the loss of a child would be worse, I think. Had one week, where I lost wife (first love), job, car & apartment, though got over that surprisingly easy. Too easy to replace those, and would be repeated a few times

Both of the 'scripts' I mention are available OTC, and very inexpensive at any pharmacy.

As is the toast, even homemade (flour, water, yeast, salt). Can't avoid all processing. Haven't tried yet, but could make my own. Only need milk, lemon juice & salt, and that food processor.

If I didn't take that iconic photo myself, I doubt if I would believe that aluminum & tin foil can made it to the surface and back.

@OneMoreFarang Got me thinking so did a test, let the outside air in for more than a few hours. Impressive, and spot on with local reading. We're just a couple kms from that tambon, I think. Where ever they source the info from, pretty damn accurate. The state they source it from radar ??? https://www.accuweather.com/en/th/ban-thung-khlet/436192/air-quality-index/436192 15 minutes later, and we're back to heathy, just the purifiers on.

Minimum level of Thai knowledge and language for long term residents
KhunLA replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
Why ? I've been here 24+ years, and very far from fluent, conversational, or reading & writing. Realized the other day, I forgot how to write my name in Thai script. Conversational, I know the numbers, and enough to get by, but no way could have a conversation with a local, except for the very basics. And not even sure about that now, as I've seemed to have forgotten more than I remember. Don't need help doing my visa extension. Or banking, setting up. Can do driver's license, car registration renewal (yearly tax) with no problem. Easily negotiate a govt hospital by myself. Residency would only give my more rights, which I don't need. One of the reasons I've stayed here so long, it's simply too easy to, with minimal or no effort. If I didn't have daughter, or present wife, I'd probably leaned a lot more Thai. Not sure about fluent in conversation, maybe if the talk real slow. I could read & write Spanish, but holding a conversation in Mexico was near impossible. They talk so fast, my brain can't compute that fast. By the time I was done thinking about the first sentence, they were on their third, and left my brain in the dust Same with French & Latin, though never got a chance to use French, and I try to avoid priests -
As do others, that don't live here. @StayinThailand2much If funds have been here for 15 years, and not in the bank since, it does beg to question, either where the funds came from, or where the funds that you live on now, are coming from. Without a record of being transferred in from abroad, it would be easy for the Imm officer to assume you are working here.
-
Apparently, many have not learned anything from all the TRD threads. ... 1st, read the DTA for you home country where funds are coming from. ... 2nd, go to TRD office and ask them Stop asking total strangers who are not tax experts for TH or your home country. I'm getting the impression, many folks never filed their own taxes. In that case, do the same here, hire a tax accountant/advisor to do you taxes.
-
Obviously, that's going to depend on the source, and DTA with TH from home country, if the funds haven't been sitting there since the previous year. Some people do just leave the funds put, if not needed. I've done that in the past when married. Don't like the idea of 800k sitting somewhere, earning nothing. But 400k, no problem and easy access if having an oops.

From a news blip that has that quote, surely repeated, but doesn't make it legal ... ... "Of course, many have asked if the scooters are legal. The answer to this is a bit tricky as there aren’t firm national rules and it can vary by area, such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The bikes coming to Pattaya, however, have caused a lot of agencies and officials to meet to attempt to flesh these out as reported here by The Pattaya News." ... Along with ... ... "The laws regarding electronic scooters in Thailand are not entirely clear-cut and can vary by region. " ... Not exactly what the 'Motor Vehicle Act' states.

‘There are no trans kids’ - J.K. Rowling triggers the woke
KhunLA replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Off the beaten track
NO, simply gay or bi. Quite natural and accepted in the animal / human world. They're not transitioning into anything, just realize what they enjoy. If they are trying to tell me, that they were born with a penis, but are now a woman, or, vise versa, then I might suggest a good shrink or tell them to invest in book on human 'biology'. -
Are the readings within 5-10 of each other, then I really wouldn't be concerned. You could buy a stand alone meter, for '3rd opinion' and 'best out of 3' if concerned. I've done that with thermometers, oven & instant, and they all pretty much agreed. Surprisingly since el cheapos.
