Minimum required to live comfortably at a young retirement age
KhunLA replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
Not really, as @BritManToo emphasis on "if you cook it yourself", I take as raw whole food ingredients, being same quality used no matter what, 'western' or 'Thai' food you are preparing. -
Everyone gets the 210k exempt allowance, retired or not. If 65+ years old, you get another 190k exempt allowance. You may want to actually read the tax law/allowances. You get more if married along with dependent kids or older folks, anyone you are caretaker of. I posted some tidbits of info here, though did update the final 41k of tax due, to 35k in a later post. This link here and may have info that will interest you ... https://aseannow.com/topic/1349073-i-am-leaving-thailand-yes-taxes/page/4/#comment-19520594

What is different between Drug Dealers and Farmer's burning their crops?
KhunLA replied to Gobbler's topic in General Topics
Geez, I though I was an Ahole (no need to agree) on OTT punishments. Drug dealers ... depends what type of drugs, with ganga still being illegal in many places, even unlicensed sales here/TH, that's a bit of overkill. I would actually say alcohol sales is a more serious issue. And that's mostly legal. Death for burning ... maybe heavy fine, loss of land, but we all know, nothing will change. Been spewing the same hot air about smog season for over 24 years since I've been here, and I think it's only gotten worse, or I just noticed how horrendous it is in some areas. -
Oops, speed reading, and had Chulalongkorn on the brain. Didn't know about the other, Chulabhorn ... THANKS

Never confused, always knew only 2, and will always be only 2. Some of the definitions of genders were a crack up. -
Thailand's First Equal Marriage: A Step Towards a Better World
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Would have avoided 3 divorces, though mutual and no negative issues about any. Just the paperwork, and stigma of being a 3 time LOSER That's OK, #4 and 19 yrs on going 😎 -

Thailand's First Equal Marriage: A Step Towards a Better World
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
a 'Better World' for who ? More misery when relationship ends, and they regret that piece of paper, when one contests the divorce, or wants all they can get. Dumb A$$s didn't realize how good they had it -

A 50B bowl or plate of food, is not a meal, IMHO, and rarely filling. For us it's lower cost, and we eat a mix of Western & Thai. Dependent of course, on where and what one would eat when dining out. Cost isn't so much a factor, in vs out, though being thrifty is a plus. More about being healthier, and better flavor. Convenience of, and perfection in cooking & flavor. Hot food is hot, and cold is cold, and served in the order we want. Cooking is just one of our enjoyable hobbies. Eating out involves, actually putting clothes on, driving to/from, waiting for food, maybe swatting flies while eating, all with the possibility of minor to major disappointment. Only negative about eating in house ... someone has to do the dishes -

So in reality, he had a job & income, weed farmer & barter instead of $$$. So does not live on 100 baht a day. Since good weed is very expensive in USA, his budget could be considered very high. Depending of course, how much is used to barter for food & services. -

It's all relative, and down to your lifestyle and cost of. We own home ... no rent Have solar ... no real PEA bill (<100 baht) Have EVs ... no transport cost (petrol) Eat most meals in home (95%) ... very low cost Don't drink alcohol, or don't meet ups outside of homes. Only mandatory monthly bills ... ... water <200 ... ph & internte <1300 ... vehicle insurance <1000 ? We live on about 15k-20k a month, 2 adults, 1 dog (10kg). Don't think most folks can live happily much cheaper than that, and we want for nothing, and eat damn good. If eating out once a day, no alcohol, having to pay for petrol & electric (AC abuser), that would easily add 25k to our monthly budget. If sipping a few, maybe 10k baht more. You've been at it for awhile, so should know your budget by now. If not, start keeping track (write down) every expense you have for about 3 months. Also count all COH now, and in 3 months again, count again, and you'll know exactly how much 3 months cost. You will miss many expenses while keeping track, though shouldn't be much, but nice to know. COH vs your expense tracking. If you don't know where it's going, you can't control it. Once you know where it's going, you can adjust, if needed. -
No thought involved really. You just never pop into the petrol station again, unless Out & About (O&A), and need to top up. Only thing to think about, is when to charge, and only if you have solar or TOU meter. Solar, charge when you can, if PEA/MEA, usually be charging overnight anyway. O&A, range of battery is a bit irrelevant, as it comes down to range of you bladder or stomach. We're good for 3+ hours, then I need a stop. Happy if the wife can make it that long. Just plug in when we stop. If 3+ hours, that usually means 250 kms range, which also means having about a 25+% reserve of 70 kms maybe. O&A range is ~320-340 kms for our MG ZS, if down to 0. Only 46.3kwh usable battery. 10% ... you're brave if O&A, and been in the car way too long 😂 If local, takes too long top back up. Came back from Chumphon yesterday, @ 32%, plugged in for couple hours. This AM @42%. Charging since 0730, (solar @ ~2.3kWh) and won't top up before sunset.

A few years back, 5 maybe, had down at Chula, and 12k rings a bell, for 'each' having both endo & colon, although the Q was months long. 5k extra to 'jump Q', the next day, for pre hours (?) service. So both were less than 30k. Not sure if there's a Thai price, that would be <10k, and would suspect there is, if not on the gold card system or out of one's coverage zone.

Damn good camera, unless y'all live very close. If that fancy a camera, you could simply ask him to dial back the range of motion detector. Although myself, I'd thank him for making the area a bit safer, and appreciate the need not to install CCTV in the front of the my house, as he's got it covered. Assuming you don't have a privacy wall around the property, which case, the camera isn't really providing much of a view, invasion of your privacy, that they can't see already, without the camera. As suggested, just draw the curtain before getting your freak on in the front room, or not, if you're into exhibitionism

Add the cost of travel and spending time elsewhere, would surely be more than any tax one is trying to avoid. For me, I'm quite happy right here and have no desire to leave TH. No desire to see border countries, and definitely no desire to sit on a plane for 3-6-12-24 hours to go any further than next door. I'd also have to leave my therapist (dog) behind, and no way could I cope with that.

Don't ya love it At least 10 different threads on taxes / RD, and all have no information, except you need to file by March 2025, but all have plenty of different advice. Including, simply blowing off the requirement to file, that may or may not be actually required, that may or may not be a hassle or come with a penalty if you don't. One of the originals has all the info 'available' for you to find and figure out your tax burden. Thank you @CharlieH for that, I think, if not, THANKS to the one I forgot who it was, and you know who you are ... THANKS. It always does amaze me the questions, and advice, to & from strangers, that people ask for or give, when all is 'usually' available online, if available .... IF YOU GOOGLE. Answered in less that a minute or so, or you can sort through the 5-10 pages of the threads on AN, and still not have a clue. Or, in this case, you could just pop into your local office ... and ASK

Yes you can, although, reading Sheryl's reply, that may be location dependent. At worst, you'll find out before hand, if lucky and you ask, or, you go to register, then they'll tell you ... no or yes, here's you Q #. Registering at hospitals, to be seen same day, is a very early experience, and the Q can be hours, before the registration office even opens. Welcome to the Thai public hospital system. But hey, you're there, so tell them you want to see a doc, to order blood tests. Only difference is, you may or may not have wasted a day, a morning, and chances are, you may not get the test done, that day. All location dependent, at a guess. Before doing that, going to hospital, make sure you do an overnight fast, nothing but water after 1800 hrs the evening before. Or ... actually go to a doc, and they will refer you to get the tests you want. Ask Sheryl suggests. May depend how easy or convenient that is for you. Do you speak Thai, no necessary, or do you have a Thai partner/translator, for ease. My experiences. Udon Thani has health check ups, though don't know if need appointment or referral, or can just show up. Udon Thani Military Hosp. (govt ) has health check ups, no appt needed. Have done there, just showed up, no appointment, and they check all on a list, and you are welcome to add tests. This a long time ago, though doubt if it changed. PKK Hosp, that I use now, don't know, never asked, as I simply go to my GP, who also runs the night clinic at the hospital, and ask for what ever I want. He give me an appointment date/time referral. Night clinic cost foreigner 1200 baht that new, but beats Q'ing up all day to see a doc, to get the same referrals, maybe. My GP will order anything I ask for, although I'm not unrealistic, like our AN hypochondriacs are. OR .. if in Bangkok, pop into Camillian Hosp, no appt needed at about 0800 hrs, and doe a full health check up there. https://camillianhospital.org/en/health-check-up-program/ Used Camillian Hosp about 10 ish years running for Health Check Ups, too easy, and not expensive at all.

Which person that you don't know, do you want to believe ? In my case, it's irrelevant, as my income is exempt for taxation. But will there be a penalty for not filing. Or, will I need to get a tax receipt, before visa extension approved, which will cost me ~2500 baht anyway. 1900 for 30 extension, 500 for new bank paperwork, maybe. Along with, another 200 kms drive, since Imm Office is 100 kms away. Myself, I'll probably pop over the the local RD, and ask myself. With my phone on, recording, and if they state, don't bother, then I won't, but have a record. Or simply file, depend what mood I'm in. I'll probably file, since there, and I like doing things legally when in a foreign country, most times, especially if it might cost me money later, if I don't play nice. The op hasn't provided any info, and simple repeated all the useless info, we've already read. It really is too easy for Imm to simply ask for your tax filing record / receipt. No Have ... come back when you do. Same as they do now with your income info to extend. No extra staff, no extra work,, actually less, (now FO till you have) just a new extra form for you to copy, and sign. And before you leave ... Here's your 2000 baht fine, just like when you miss your 90 day pulse check
