SO who of you guys live in Thailand?
KhunLA replied to still kicking's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
From USA for first 45 yrs, now TH, past 25 yrs, no plans on leaving. Settled in, wife of 19 years, and daughter, knocking of 26 yrs old. No reason or desire to leave, even if not having wife & kid. Final decision to stay was ~5 yrs ago, when contracted to build 3rd house, for the purpose of staying. First 2 houses were built, simply because I needed a comfy place to live, till kid was done High School. Reality being, after high school, I had no reason to stay in TH. Especially since she attended Uni in a different province. Daughter now lives in a different province. 3rd, present house, built for the long haul, having solar, greenhouse/garden, even chickens soon. Bought extra lots on dead end soi, for investment, but more to ensure no neighbors. Will buy the last 3 lots, when available, for same reason. BEVs, that will probably out last me. Plan on staying till the last bbq.- 302 replies

Twice-per-second Bleeping Bird: What's it good for?

Prefer not to share any eggs with any critters running about. Hard enough to keep the squirrels and bird from munching in the garden. Whole reason for the greenhouse, protect my precious figs. -
Twice-per-second Bleeping Bird: What's it good for?
KhunLA replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Personally, I'd much rather hear birds, any birds, than not hearing. Have resident Koels, and quite enjoy listing to them, and any others. Even a rooster @ 0500 waking me up is a pleasure to hear. May even get one ourselves when the coup is done -

2025 stock favorites
KhunLA replied to bkk6060's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Tesla is a trophy car, overpriced for best tech, which you'll probably never need or use. Yes, as competition gets established, Teslas market share, as shown already, will slide from it's previous dominance, as top dog in the BEV market. Without tariffs, no auto maker is safe from BEVs from CN. BYD has proved that, even with tariffs, they are taking over the market in Europe. ICEV market will die off, way before the predicted 2035 mark, with or without mandates. People are waking up, fast & furious, especially if concerned about performance & overall lower cost of ownership. As far as Tesla's stock price goes, Musk could care less. -
Scrambled Alaska (salmon + tomato), and the dark stuff is Crispy Onion Spicy Oil. With a side of 'desert' carbs. It's not always what you eat, for being healthy, but how and when you eat. First meal after a 15 hr overnight fast. Protein & fat eaten first, to slow the carb/sugar digestion, low to no, sugar/insulin spike. Carbs: homemade bread (no sugar), homemade black currant preseerves (no sugar), even an absurd amount of homemade butter added, again to slow carb digestion. Afterward, now, dog will take me for my morning walk in the park, again, slowing carb digestion. Eating healthy, ever crap carbs, is easy, with a little fore thought. ENJOY

Supply & demand, the current market, what's their offer, you accept or not. Move on if not acceptable. Depends a lot on the time frame you are using for price comparison. If short span of time, then drastic difference, since no to few tourist here from 2020 to late 2023. Less than 1M to now 30+M once again. Yea, they get to charge any silly price they want. I'm a thrifty shopper, but, comfort & convenience can't be ignored. UP2U what that is worth to you. A few factors have priority, before I even consider staying anywhere. Don't do long term, but I wouldn't expect a monthly rate to be extended for less than a month's stay. Or a weekly rate for a 5 or 6 day stay. What next, you want to pay 1.5 the box rate for 18 beers, instead of a box + 6 singles. Four 250g blocks of cheese for the 1kg price.

Stock market is a total scam, and once you realize that, it's easy to read and extremely profitable. -

Probably excellent, considering the market now. I bought in 1980, and tenants paid for all my properties. I was all out by 2000, and rolled it into the stocks, before Y2K, as better returns. Been out of the market for about 13ish yrs. Been here in TH for 24 yrs -

Will you be self driving, my choice, or relying on public trans. We were down south, Betong, Yala, from Prachuap Khiri Khan, March 2024. Never felt unsafe, and really enjoyed the trip. First time pass Phattalung or Satun. Did one of our usual loops. Actually didn't spend much time at Hat Yai or below. One night each way at Hat Yai, I think, as not that far from Betong. We live on the Gulf coast, and been down along so many times. Nice scenic spots all around the south, why it's our favorite part of the country. Some spectacular landscape. We travel with a dog, so accommodation choices are limited, especially in the south, as not as pet friendly. Plenty of thrifty, budget accommodations & up. We're thrifty travelers, as wouldn't use the amenities the high end places offer and charge for anyway. Not even a big brekkie person, so prefer no mandatory brekkie buffet places. You'll have no problem finding places to stay, and I simply use Booking.com for info, then cross reference with Gmaps, for phone numbers to call and book direct. Usually cheaper, and more accurate info. Sometimes, don't even bother with Booking.com, as Gmap has better info, photos at times. Same with restaurants, once at hotel, simply use Gmap 'nearby' restaurants and start your peeking. Some thoughts of a couple place during March 2024 outing, and if stroll through that thread, maybe some more about the south, during previous O&A (out & abouts). https://aseannow.com/topic/1298442-leaving-the-bar-stool/page/3/#findComment-18788290

How do people hold such hate, for people they never met, or truly know anything about Anyone living their dream, along with being a multi millionaire, earns a bit of respect and admiration from me. Chicken Rice Vendor Saves Italian Tourist with CPR

That's the advice I gave my mother, as hated my father, (mutual feeling with her & siblings) and didn't want him to be a burden on her, when the eventual oops happened. "If he ever keels over, just leave him be, go in the other room, have a coffee, and enjoy the thoughts of your future freedom without him." That's exactly what she did, as he suffered a stroke at night, and called me the next day, bright & early OK, 8 ish hours later, time to report it. One of those fake 'surrounded by loving family, as he passed in his sleep' moments -
Good fortune: PM Paetongtarn’s assets exceed 13 billion baht
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Daddy didn't need to empty the treasury. Though him & cronies did make it impossible for Shin Corp to have competition. Remember when it cost 12 baht to call Bangkok from upcountry, and 38 baht to call the UK, 18 to call USA. That's why. Also why those fiber optic lines were never utilizes, that were available the whole time, competition was restricted. When the Shin satellite was sold, and competition restrictions expired, the price of phone calls in country, dropped to <1 baht & 4 baht for overseas. Internet 'ISP' cost also plummeted. When there's no competition you get to charge and make as much money as you want. And if you paid attention, you made a sh!t load of money, or wife did, when the rights were auctioned off to the communication companies and their stocks popped when they won the bidding on contracts. Tax free to top it off. Again ... work smarter, not harder. Instead of complaining about the 'system', learn and use the system to 'your' advantage. How do you distract the voters and stay in power, give them what they deserve ... FREE HEALTHCARE Win win for everyone -

Since CPR was applied, his heart didn't stop for 15 minutes. I believe it's something like 5+ minutes and if no blood circulation, then chance of survival goes down or have some type of brain damage, do to lack of oxygen. And a quick Google, before hitting that submit button ...
