  1. One of the Orioles, as they have a yellow ones here/TH. Has a very loud, distinctive call. We have a couple around the house, yet to get a snap of. A family of, at the local park, I see quite often:
  2. A few ... more like every one, except for JFK, as he was pretty straight up, aside from personal life. No BS, and admitted his failure when having a policy oops. Reagan had Alzheimer's, so gets a pass, but Bush (ex CIA) had to know about the Contra BS.
  3. Both, but lean toward 'avoid' more recently. Actually none now, at PKK. When living at Udon Thani, met a few, and good friends, though 'great' would be a stretch. Even after 15 yrs, how much time have you really spent with someone, as I only met most, once a month, at an expat meet up. With only a few socializing at theirs or our house. Not a hang out with you or at the bar everyday kind of guy, so no deep relationships here, or even at USA.
  4. Working for the airlines, and it happens a lot more than one would think. Usually a shaver. Post 9/11, you'd think they would be X-ray all luggage, and shows poor security. Why if passenger doesn't check in/board flight, the flight doesn't leave until bag is pulled
  5. I can't see that happening, as counter productive to any budget concerns. The amount saved, vs the amount they'd put out in Medicare cost if we stayed in USA would definitely be a negative. I had a minor med oops/procedure done, 1.5 yrs ago, that would have cost Medicare $100-150k (5-7 yrs of my SS), but here only cost me $6500. As stated, SS is NOT an entitlement, myself & employer paid for it. That the gov't mismanaged it is theirs and future tax payer's problem. Mess with SS and you lose 1/3 of you votes, if not more.
  6. @Owiee Booking.com is the best site for accurate pet friendly info, and you can filter that. Krung Thep has about 50 hotels, though not many I'd consider, as parking is an issue also, and I require secure parking. Outside Krung Thep, just cross reference Gmap with satellite & streetview, to see if any green areas around. We usually find places on Gmap, better than booking.com, or, at least Gmap will have a phone number to call to verify the info, and find out pet charges if applied, some free, some silly and almost the price of the room. Wife spends quite a bit of time on the phone before we move on to the next spot. Bring a small dog mat/bed with you, if just for optics, and gives the impression the dog won't be sleeping on the bed. We bring a top sheet anyway, as she will be on the bed. Along with small broom, as wife leaves the room cleaner than when we check in sometimes. She sheds quite a bit, and pet charge or not, best we leave a good impression for the next person with a pet. Happy Travels
  7. Actually Riverside has an area set aside to the left as you exit. Admit the area set aside is ridiculously small, and I don't even bother. Poolside was very un-cool, although we have sat poolside with our dog, after she has done her business, on a leash, and she preferred the shade under the lounger. Rather take her up by the entrance/guard shack, and larger area (NW corner) for her to sniff around and pick a spot. Also nobody will be walking around that area.
  8. That photo is used in more than a few news-blips in a bunch of countries in Africa, SEA, PI Apparently pinch off a 2007 upload to Flickr, unless sold to stock photo site.
  9. "The Dutch team simulated 2,200 years of its flow, adding in what human-caused climate change does to it. They found after 1,750 years "an abrupt AMOC collapse," .... but so far are unable to translate that simulated timeline to Earth's real future .... Key to monitoring what happens is a complicated measurement of flow around the tip of Africa. The more negative that measurement, the slower AMOC runs." OK, so something might happen, sometime in the future ... got it. Hope they didn't pay a lot for their education to come up with that one
  10. Been to almost every province, with exception to the festive bottom 3 or 4 southern gulf side provinces.
  11. Makro had them (฿139), along with the hash browns.
  12. Haven't had tater tots, in probably 40+ yrs ...
  13. All nice ones. Just to add to the Nan area, bit more specific, for Nan-Bo Kluea-Pua on hwy 1081, and one of the best. Though probably not as many restaurants of the other 2 options. Khao Kho area in Phetchabun is excellent. If in the area, hwy # 4232, Nakhon Si Thammarat worth the slight detour from the main that bypass it, heading S or N.
  14. Interesting question, as that would suck if applicable. Maybe someone who cares might chime in with the answer.
  15. For us, without the EVs, it would be a 8-10 ROI, and we abuse the AC pretty good. If just me, agree, lucky to break even, if I live another 6-8 years, but the wife is 22 yrs younger. So more for her, than myself. Though spiteful person that I am, probably would do anyway, just to free myself of PEA We don't have any power outages here or even roaming brown outs, unlike when we lived in Udon Thani area, in which we would have, just for that reason. At least a small system.
  16. Here's a typical sunny day, input/output, which was hard to find, us not charging one of the EVs, or out & about. March 11th 2023, so assuming we were using both ACs, 24 & 13 BTU (inverters). Production/Consumption (blue/red), and batteries topped up by 1000hrs, so only producing to supply house load beyond 1000hrs. Spikes are cooking, possibly some clothes washing. shower (3.5kWh or less) but no constant draw of electric, besides ACs. Once up to temp, they / ACs don't draw much. Total for the day was P 17.7kWh / C 17.5kWh. We don't have East facing panels, why no excess to the batteries, till after 0730 or 0800hrs.
  17. Ibis chain (not Styles) is pet friendly, up to 10kg pet. No pet charge. Have hotels at Phuket (Kata), Krabi (Ao Nang), Hua Hin (Nong Kae), and we've stayed at all 3. Saying that, if you can get a trustworthy sitter (we can't), then that would be better for the pet, as it will be restricted to the room, most of the time, and there isn't a lot of 'green areas' at tourist locations. Many municipal parks are not pet friendly. National parks aren't pet friendly, and it's brutally hot outside, at times, for pet to be hanging out at the beach with you, if longer than an hour or so. If stopping at Krung Thep, then we prefer Ibis BKK Riverside, vs Sathorn or Soi 4. Join Accor membership as convenient booking. No real savings, but don't have to prepay, and can cancel up to day of, without penalty. Most other booking sites require prepayment.
  18. I suspect we may get a sample of her as President, if Biden can't finish this term. Seems everyone is questioning his ability now. They have nobody to offer up on the 2024 ticket besides her, which would satisfy those wishing for a 'progressive' mixed race female as President. It's going to be a very sad, but comical as hell 2024 election
  19. Think they could lower that number of panels if using higher spec'd panels. We only have 18, and enough to run the house and recharge our 20kWh of batteries. Batteries usually topped up between 1000-1200hrs, unless crappy out. Using 6 or 7kWh overnight (14 hrs), w/ AC & air purifier, on in the bedroom the whole time, along w/2 frigs. Laptops & 65" TV till midnight or beyond.
  20. You can pay ฿500k, or more, but there certainly isn't any need to. Our system cost ฿445k, installed, 8kWh inverter w/20kWh of ESSs/battery. Basically off grid, though still conx to PEA, costing <฿30 a month, JIC. Our system is probably one of, if not the most expensive (per kWh), of AN members that DIY'd it. Could have easily knocked about 100k off if DIY, maybe, even more so with the price drops the last 1.5 yrs. Our ESSs were a large chunk of the cost @ ฿185k (90 & 95k). Looks as though (from OP), could have knocked 75k off just that part of the install. System provides just enough on the crappiest days, and when sun is shining, can charge the EVs, and probably run a neighbors house, if we had neighbors Will easily produce 50kWh a day. We've used as little as 350 kWh a month, and more than 1000 kWh a month.
  21. Nice ... been thinking about pancakes the past couple days myself. Have a flavorless pancake mix I sample, falling under, "you get what you pay for" ... or ... "stick with what you know ... idiot". Also have a bunch of pandan powder to test out ... 2 birds with one stone
  22. Especially when you don't have to ...
  23. This from a guy who's country still has a whole class of people (Dalits) called 'untouchables' As many as 200 million, and more than most country's whole population.
  24. Credible links ... how's MaliOnline - seems acceptable as used often on AN. A bit tabloid-ish IMO ... then there's the BBC - MSM echo box Wow, same story line, they must be part of the RT propaganda machine also. In disguise, who would have thought
  25. WSJ article has Harris stating 'she's ready to lead the county, if Biden can't', and actually stated that, before the lack of memory report was released. hmm ... maybe a heads up of what's to come
