  1. Our solar saves uses ฿2.5K-5K a month for household electric, using 20-50kWh a day. Another 4k a month on petrol cost, actually ฿47..8k saved the first year with the EV. ROI on our solar system will be between <5 yrs to maybe 8 years, depending if we continue to drive 20k kms a year, which has been our average the past 20 years. Can't see that changing as long as I'm alive, so closer to the 5 year mark. Then it's all free after that. I actually expect both, solar system ESSs/batteries and the EV to last about 20 years without any major issues, since both are LFP chemistry.
  2. Mostly NE provinces topping the list. Couldn't be all the rice, sugar & corn farming. Strange that they burn so much, as the Korat plateau is fairly flat. In the N, it's understandable, sort of, as running a tractor on hills to turn the soil isn't the most practical or safest way at times. NE, it's simply easier & cheaper to burn it. Part of the reason I left Udon Thani, as it used to rain black dust from the sugar burning. Rather annoying when having a pool.
  3. I don't think you can get any more off grid than this, connected or not: We're unofficially 'off grid' also, as don't need PEA at all. Only stay connected, since having only 1 inverter. If having two 5kW inverters instead of one 8kW inverter, we'd probably give the meter back also. We also have the EV as back up if needed, so even if inverter crapped out, we wouldn't have a issue till replaced. 20kWh of ESSs is more than enough for us, and yet to use 50% overnight since adding 2nd ESS, and that's with an AC on. The EV would provide at least another 30kWh of back if ever needed.
  4. Good luck getting insurance at 76, and no way would I come to TH at 76. If not settled in here, with daughter now, not sure I'd even be here. Hot temps & smog is quite the deterrent. Disabled ? If you or wife have mobility issues, then TH would be a hassle to live in, and not disabled friendly at all. Instead, just visit a few months a year, as rainy season is lovely.
  5. Reading comprehension ... nukes ? You mentioned them, not me. But as YOU point out, Türkiye has access to USA nukes and is part of NATO, so you are correct, nukes at their doorstep.... "Türkiye shares a maritime border with both Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea." Wonder why RU doesn't want UA to be part of NATO ... hmm. With B1 & 2 bombers, B52s and nuke subs scattered worldwide, don't think the USA/NATO needs any more. But again, the war that will never happen. From the posts, it's obvious who did bother to listen to the interview, but yet posted their ignorance. Really hard to have a discussion when most involved are still quite ignorant of the facts. IMHO Have a nice day.
  6. I don't know anyone that would consider living there. Renting in the past during one high season would be enough to turn anyone off. Now, low season is simply too congested. We were there Aug 2023, and can't see us ever returning, unless another pandemic, which case, during last one, we were there 5 times, and pure bliss every time. One friend, and this 15 yrs ago had a house at Kamala, and he didn't live there, and rarely used it as a vacation house. Didn't take long for him to realize it was a mistake. Strangely he preferred rural Udon Thani & Vientiane to living on Phuket. Use the rent received to live elsewhere.
  7. Just watched majority of the interview, and TBH, didn't learn anything new, as I knew the history and the why every thing today, developed the way it has. Hopefully others will actually watch it, understand it, and realize RU was, is quite correct in their actions. NATO has expanded and put missiles on RU's doorstep for decades, and UA was the final straws. The regime change (coup), and attacking of Russians in Crimea & Donbas and other regions. And ignoring the Minsk agreement, leaving RU no choice. Sad so many are completely ignorant of the facts, and brainwashed by MSM propaganda. Those same people will either not watch the interview, or simply say it's all lies. And yet, believe the propaganda they are fed, by nothing but confirmed liars. Pointed out again & again, by whistleblower, WikiLeaks and others. All those facts ignored of course, even though presented in print & videos. All never denied, simply folks prosecuted for releasing the info/facts. Go figure.
  8. He didn't steal millions, I don't think, but he did make million, billions.
  9. It pays to be a friend of #1. Nothing has surprised me, and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Elite privileges extended the same, worldwide. Many non elites get the same treatment. You just don't read about it. Some fair, some not.
  10. More than a few here / PKK, and one of the dominant species, along with it's cousins: Vinous-breasted Myna Acridotheres leucocephalus Greater Myna Acridotheres grandis Only have seen the Jungle Myna Acridotheres fuscus once, @ Phatthalung Photo credits: Me
  11. What mega rich person wouldn't own or charter private jets for transport. As long as they all aren't flying to the Earth Day MMGM conference, that the hypocrites use private jets to get to If on tour, makes sense, knowing your flight will operate, instead of flying commercial. They are on a tight schedule sometimes. Anything beats dealing with airport security & check ins, and half the reason I haven't left TH in almost 20 years. Nothing I want to see is worth 6 hrs of being at an airport, let alone more than 2 hr on a plane (and they other reason I stay in TH). Closest interesting place are like 3 hrs (HKG) or 6 hrs (SEL or JP) away, not counting 3 hrs check in each way. When it takes as long or longer the check in than flying, something is wrong. Then a train to get out of the cities. Envious people out there, since they have to ride in the back of the bus That's pure hell on a full plane.
  12. Small Yogurt/Natto/Sake maker, has preset times, 8/18/36 hrs. Started w/250gr dry beans, yield shy of 500gr Natto. Makro soy beans 500gr @ ฿23 Makro Natto three 40gr servings for ฿70 & ฿75 brand dependent.
  13. Remember selling first house, which had 2 major add ons year or so after original build. So did have slight cracks were they met. Buyer came with his 'builder' to do inspection before buying. Said "very good build, very few cracks" .. that gave me a chuckle. House about 8 yrs old then. 2nd build, different builder, no cracks after 10+ yrs. Cracks after only 1 year, not good. Next time use a different builder.
  14. 1st time, maybe, since records being kept. Nothing to do with MMCC .. IMHO Less than 200 yrs of records over millions of existence isn't much of a CC change indicator. Along with probably nil effect over the next 200 years.
  15. Yes, still rural, moved from Ban Tad, UT, to Ban Nong Kae, Muang, UT, and rural there for another 6 yrs, before daughter graduated high school. Then left UT, to PKK, for my final resting place Still rurual, but <5 kms from everything instead of 15+. Really don't even need a car. Daughter graduated Uni, and works at Krung Thep, as no work here for her, and likes the city life. Working & investing in RE (chip off the ol' block). Since an adult, she legally adopted us, easier since birth parents are MIA, and we couldn't before that. Only change, replaced daughter with dog, so now still have a therapist to talk to. Along with being as self sufficient as possible; solar/EVs, and fruit/veggie garden. No need for PTT/petrol, PEA/electric and if more storage tanks, could get rid of PWA, but to convenient & cheap.
  16. I would avoid doing that. I went to deposit a check many years back, and the gal at the bank who liked me, advised against it, as they would have charged 1/3 to deposit it. Along with waiting for the worse rate over a 45 day period before they said it would clear. Back then, checks took 2 days to clear. Hopefully changed not, but I understand the still do the long wait to clear, which is BS, as they should clear in a few hours. No less than 12 hrs.
  17. Civic groups want to talk about a truce, but apparently not the BRN. So the killing won't really stop. Nothing really to talk about. Keep playing terrorist, keep dying. Maybe if the civic groups would stop protecting the terrorists, the problem could be solved, and the killing stopped.
  18. Living in Ban Tad, A. Muang, Udon Thani. Almost 4 yrs into my retirement. Already divorces from first Thai wife. Enjoying being single and parent to my village orphan. Unlike now, home cooking, ate most of our meals in town after school run to pick up daughter. Had a different favorite restaurant for all 5 days. Lived rural, 15+ kms out of town. 2 yrs away from meeting present wife, 2006.
  19. Nah ... already have, so no need to look at things I'm not going to buy.
  20. Already back pedaling, stating it won't happen ... ... guess they thought it through. Tucker Carlson interview with Putin to test EU law regulating tech companies EU Could Sanction Tucker Carlson over Interviewing Vladimir Putin Tucker Carlson 'may face sanctions over Vladimir Putin interview' Exclusive: Tucker Carlson Could Face Sanctions Over Putin Interview Tucker Carlson may be subjected to EU sanctions for interview with Putin
  21. Calls now being made to ban/sanction Carlson from EU. Let the punishment & censorship begin I await the fake sexual assault accusations to follow soon, since the SOP for silencing any narrative against the deep state ... IMHO
  22. MSNBC & hillary ... that's embarrassing. ... but then again ... "What does it matter" ...
  23. Comparing those two markets (USA & TH) is a bit silly. Completely different mindset of purchasers, along with income, and infrastructure of CS. Add the MSM of EVs are evil. Yank are brainwashed into macho, bigger and more powerful is better. Marketing ploy from the manufacturers, due to the 'green tax' on mid to large cars. Why everything is called an SUV now, and on truck platforms, so the manufacturer gets a tax break. The green tax did the complete opposite of promoting cars to burn less fossil fuel. Now the cars are simply larger, burn more, and classed as a truck. Take the salary of Thais vs Yanks. Why owning a practical trunk or scooter fits in their/Thais' finances. Imagine a bunch of yank riding Hondo Waves Anything smaller than a 750cc and you're laughed at. That was my first MC. EVs are a new market here, so yes, #s are small, though surprisingly high % of sales. Thais being more thrifty and not brainwashed, more practical in their purchases.
