  1. Hey ... I had a paper route, as a kid, 12/13 yrs old. On Sunday, the damn bag of papers weighed more than me. Think that was good for about $12 a week, if memory serves. Big plus the distribution garage was at the beginning of my route. Others had to carry them to the other side of town. Then I moved on to linen service for restaurants, maybe $10 a day, but a 6 hr day. Go with the owner, count used linen, and restock the restaurants with same count. Learned early on how disgusting restaurant kitchens were. Then before old enough to even have work papers, worked in a restaurant ($1 hr). Violating every aspect of child labor laws. Working till 0100 hrs during school nights, and back to back 12 shifts, overnight on weekends, since 24 hr restaurant. And teachers use to wonder why I didn't show up in class or fell asleep in class Remember when I got the working papers (16 yrs old), they were filled out for something like 2 hrs during the week (5-7pm) and 4hr on weekends. What a joke. Had a paper route when I was 25 yrs old also, on the rural roads of W.VA, delivering via car, before sunrise, and before going to first crap salaried airline job. Also remember have 3 jobs, 2 PT, 1 FT, and another low paying airlines, till finally got a decent paying airline job. That I got laid off from, thank you Carter. That was it for me, eyes opened .... self employment & RE afterwards. Finally paying 'myself' what I'm worth.
  2. Nope ... inequality never bothered me. If you want more, earn more. Know too many people here, who started off with nothing, like so many others, and yet, worked and provide enough or more than enough for themselves. Not different when I live in the USA. There's a public assistance system in place, which I don't mind my taxes being used for, for those needing. Something that is missing here in TH, and many other 3rd world countries. But for most people, living in non socialist countries, simply work & earn more if you want more.
  3. I wouldn't call my keto ish dining lifestyle a diet at all. Really does include all the food groups, though different ratios than the recommended 'food pyramid'. Like any new routine, once in, it takes little to know effort or will power at all. No different the sticking to a low fat, high carb diet. A carnivore diet would be extreme for me, as a bit too restrictive. Even a hard core keto diet, may be a bit much for me, as 80-90% fat, 15-20% protein, and only 5% carb, isn't going to work with me. I know I couldn't stick to it, and would be mentally frustrating trying to.
  4. Sugar has a direct effect on you insulin resistance. Diabetics monitor their sugar/glucose levels, not the far & cholesterol levels. Excess of anything & everything will make you fat, but sugar, starchy carbs, whether unprocessed, processed or ultra processed will directly affect your insulin resistance. Excess fat will obviously add fat to you body, not argument there, but sugar in carbs will also. Another key is when & how you eat your carbs. As I state quite often. You need to give those ketones & super ketones time to work. If your downing more than a few alcohol beverages over night, go to sleep, with those sugar & carbs, then 6-8 hrs later, wake and have the sugar in coffee, low fat high carb brekkie, then those ketones didn't do much overnight to burn that sugar, carbs & fat. Hence my 15-18 hr intermittent fast overnight, and easy when 6-8 of those hrs are while you're sleeping. Since doing that, I don't really need to think about how much I eat, just when I eat. Never being a brekkie person, black coffee when I wake till about noon is fine with me. That last snack, before 2000 hrs. Between 1200 & 1800 hrs, I pretty much eat whatever and as much as I won't. Just easy on the starchy carbs & sugar. As stated also, a few times, that works for me, and took my glucose down from 6.3 to 5.3-5.5. Along with weight from 90+ kgs to <80kg, and BP from 140s/90s to <120/80. That works for me, and would recommend to anyone to try it for 3 months, if weight, glucose # and BP# are on the high side of normal of above. Is it for everyone, or even needed, probably not. But if after 40 or50 ish yrs old, or in retirement, and your weight, glucose and or BP is not where you want, and you're having difficulty with either or all, then give it try. Takes very little will power and then simply becomes a natural eating lifestyle. Easier if you know how to cook. You'll find whole foods in our frig, and very little, if any processed foods at all. Some of our fruits & veggies even come out of the garden & greenhouse. Growing & cooking your own food, is a nice hobby, and uses up quite a bit of spare time in that relaxed retirement. I'm a broken record, but if it helps 1 person as it helped me, then worth repeating. From other postings, I'm not alone in my thinking or having good results.
  5. I'd much rather have a conventional war against the UK than Pakistan. UK is outgunned & manned against Pakistan. (source - wiki)
  6. Nothing wrong with public transport system in the USA, as used by millions every day, if and when convenient. It's available for those that want or need it. I've even used it on a daily basis when it was convenient, and definitely cheaper than owning a car. Even though I had a vehicle or 3, I took public trans to jobs daily. Used it quite often when not wanting to drive if knowing going to have a few too many. Used to go to/from a few jobs. And used to do weekly happy hour pub crawls in the city. All location dependent of course. Those that disparage the public transport system, obviously never used or needed it, on a regular basis.
  7. Too much sugar is bad for you, that is a fact. Ask any pre or actual diabetic. Or all those over weight blobs waddling around. Obesity usually is not from eating a keto or carnivore diet.
  8. Wasn't much of a jump. Even from living in one of the largest countries (USA), as after 45 yrs, unless you never leave mommy's basement, gets a bit boring. I was always changing locations anyway, and not just across town. For myself, I wanted less govt regulation, taxation, PC BS, so a modern 3rd world country fits the bill. For a Yank, that moved around from state to state, not much of an adjustment, as you need need DL/address, electric & water service vendors, which each move to a different state. You search for, rent or buy living accommodations. Just TH is a bit further than I expected, or had originally planned for. Relationships (non P4P) have never been a problem, well, finding & having, though long term, seemed to be an issue, or a benefit. Only difference, was visa & extensions, and that's just a one day a year thing, so nothing difficult or special.
  9. Those are the carbs I avoid, or restrict intake. Potatoes are down to Tater Tots, a couple times a month, instead of some potatoes daily. Pasta is now egg noodles, and only a couple times a month, instead of weekly. Bread is maybe, maybe 1 slice a day average, OK, it's a large slice, but usually <100 gr, instead of half a loaf And whole wheat & rye flour vs just white. Homemade only and no sugar added. When I do eat starchy carbs, they're usually loaded up with fat & protein, to slow the sugar/insulin spike. Eat lots of fibrous carbs; green veggies, some fermented. Don't really miss anything. Have my cheat days, and try to keep them to once or twice a month, so it's just a day or 2 spiking, and not a constant intake that would effect my glucose level, and that stays 5.3-5.5. Just a daily blood sugar spike. And I usually feel the negative effects of that, so an easy reminder to not indulge much any more. Main difference in diet is pastries, instead of daily, way too much, they're pretty much cut out completely, except them cheat days. Non cheat days, and it's homemade Cheesecake, with minimal sugar per serving. Being a home cook, I control all the ingredients and easy to make good tasting, whole foods, with little to no sugar. Type of, when and how you eat your sugar, carbs makes a difference also. A tsp of sugar in you coffee, washing down you bacon & eggs isn't going to have much effect on you blood sugar level. I still drink my coffee black for for those that don't, be happy, don't sweat it. Just don't put 3 tsp in your coffee, while being sedentary for a few hours reading and posting on AN all day, on an empty stomach. Your ketones will stop doing their thing, and you'll get a spike you'd probably want to avoid, especially everyday.
  10. For myself, I don't eat enough to get all the balance nutrition that I should. Or another way, wouldn't burn off the amount of calories needed to get all the nutrients needed. A couple supplement fill the gaps, and my body notices the difference. I probably consume 25% of the food I use to eat when more active and working & playing due to less physical activity. Any extra from supplements is expelled, and caution should be used if taking fat soluble vitamins & minerals. I even cut taking them a couple days a week to ensure I'm not taking, storing any excess that may have a negative effect.
  11. Certainly they can and do holiday. Yanks just don't need to travel that far for a diverse holiday or quality location. The Americas offer most things the rest of the world offers, much closer and less expensive to get to. I grew up poor, and didn't have much money, and before working for the airlines, and visited more than half the states of the USA. Going west, a more northern route, and returning a more southern route. Pennsylvania to California. Up & down the east coast. Where and when is all a bit weather dependent. USA being about the same size as Europe, and that's before the wall came down, and points eastward were available. The Americas have great beaches, high mountains (west), nice hills (east). If leaving, just a couple hours away, have the Caribbean islands, Mexico, and that's before S. America. Northward, have Canada & Alaska if wanting to freeze your butt off. or chill in the hottest summers.

  13. I'm not on a low carb diet, I'm on a low sugar dining lifestyle, and that does include some carbs, especially starchy carbs; flour, potatoes, pasta & rice. Just common sense eating ... sugar is simply bad for you, so eliminate as much as possible. Fat & protein is good for your, and can almost eat as much as you want. Age & activity dependent 🙄
  14. Except for food, I didn't 'Buy USA' when I lived there I buy the best product for the vest price, and it rarely was 'Made in USA'. My allegiance is to 'my' wallet, and me & mine, and best way to provide for us
  15. Don't think I ever made chicken noodle soup from scratch before. OK, except for egg noodles. Way too much broth on hand.
  16. Hopefully they will, and cut NASA off completely, and nothing but waste. Can't see to do anything correct of late. Does make one wonder where all the money went.🥵
  17. The inverter will actually have that built in, to control exporting. We do have a cut off switch, that was already on the incoming grid line, before Solar was installed. We have exporting disabled on the inverter.
  18. Was supposed to be Bologna, and aside from not cooperating, coming out of the 'press', it tasted a lot like the ingredients. And more like chicken roll, or a very firm Chicken Pâté. Actually taste pretty good, if you forget it was supposed to be Bologna. Most 'easy' recipes call for chicken, seasoned up, and gelatin to hold it together, along with not put in the meat press.... oops Bologna is cheap enough, and uses the cheap organ meat, I won't eat, stand alone, so a good thing for me. The store bought ingredients aren't too unhealthy.
  19. @ravip This obviously depends on your stage of cataract progression, but you can delay, possibly even reverse cataract progression with drops. Strangely, that option isn't available in the USA, as banned for human use, but allowed for pets ... go figure. Hate to stop the money maker of cataract surgery. My experience, and I'm not a doc or endorse or recommend this for anyone, just my experience. Couple years now, during check up, left eye showed cataract, and I did not noticed, unless doing the lettered eye test, then obvious, blurred. TBH, i barely noticed it, as my right eye is my power eye, and I'm an avid photographer, and edit photos. Already had floaties, and why I had the exam to begin with, make sure no tears elsewhere. To the drops, when getting a 2nd opinion (in TH), 2nd optometrist when asked how to prolong it worsening, gave me eye drops, stating might works, or not. Brand 'Kary Uni', which has done exactly as I hoped, stopped the progression. Really don't like the idea of someone doing surgery on my eye, especially while I'm awake. Right eye seems fine, and all I care about. though if lost left eye, that would mess with my depth perception and safe driving ability. At 70 years old, if drops continue to work, and cheap enough, I'll pass on eye surgery to remove cataract. Don't have to worry about a surgery oops, as routine as it is, sh!t happens, and I get to save money. Hate to have surgery, then crap out in a year The drops do dissolve the cataract, whether old or new growth, it hasn't progressed. When I wake in the morning, the left eye has considerably more crusties in the corners, than the right eye. Proof for me, it works .... for me.
  20. Yep, along with using trusted, reviewed (w/photos) vendors with good refund policies. No questions asked refund policies. For LAZ, that's LAZMALL & Flagship store vendors. Same with Shopee. I've had no trouble with Cenral Online either, as one item came damaged. Recently had a Shopee vendor offer 200 of a 340 baht purchase refund, and I could keep the item, as they really didn't want it back. If I wasn't flush with rechargeable batteries already, I would have kept it, as I can't buy a 1200mAh batter for 140 baht. The AQI gauge itself was too far off being accurate, or would have simply kept it. Strangely, I've have 3 returns this past week or so, and more than the last couple years. All no prob, but, trusted, well used, reviewed vendors.
  21. Same here, and our MG ZS only as a usable 46.3kWh (of 50k.3) battery. NEDC 403, WLTP 320, which we average 360 around town (30-60-90 kph), and ~340 at highway speeds (90 kph, when possible). Would more battery & range be nice ... yes. BUT, we rarely make past 250 kms on the road, before wife, dog or myself, need a P break, and a munch, since that's 3+ hours since leaving the house. While doing those, we simply plug in, and both us & car (@ 90-95%) are usually done about the same time. So need ... NO ... and I'm too thrifty to pay the extra, for something I don't need. Would be nice though, especially if the trucks here, had proper cargo bed, 2 meters long so we could sleep back there and play RV camping. Only thing keeping me from buying a truck.
  22. I see this, as being your problem areas ... "I eat very basic food, all steamed, no fat, sugar or salt" ... ... you need fat & protein, as they will help regulate the burning of fat. Stop believing the BS. High fat & protein, along with low sugar diet lifestyle. You need salt also. ... "I've restricted my drinking to 2 large beers per day" ... ... defeats your 'no sugar' thinking. Beer is nothing but a carb = sugar ... " I eat one slice of sourdough bread" ... ... equals more carbs = sugar, Although admit to a bread addiction myself. Try to eat you starchy carbs (bread, potatoes, rice, pasta) after your fat & protein, as will slow the sugar / insulin spike during digestion. ... "eat a banana and sugar free yoghurt one hour before going to bed" ... ... that's about the worst time to eat anything, before going to sleep, unless your next meal is about 16 hrs later. Along with eating sugar, and suggest you read the ingredients of the yoghurt. To repeat, fat is not the enemy. Let the ketones do their thing, overnight, between your last meal, and your first meal the next day. Best to do an intermittent fast for 16 ish hrs +/-. Of which 8 of those, will be while you are sleeping. So if your last meal is at 1800 hrs, and you first the next day is 0800 hs, you've just fasted for 14 hrs with no effort at all. That is what has worked for me. I fast from 2000 - 1100 hrs. Went from a high of 100 kg, to a constant of <80 kgs since on a low sugar (not low carb) keto ish dining lifestyle, with intermittent fasting. Along with the proven weight management, with no effort. Eat anything I want between 1200 - 2000 hrs, except high sugar, simply or complex (starchy carbs, potatoes, pasta, rice), my blood work is perfect now. BP below 120/80 vs past 140/95 Glucose @ 5.3 vs past 6.3 BMI normal No inflammation You'll have 5 people tell you I'm all wrong, but facts speak for themselves. It simply works for me. Suggest you give a try for 30-90 days. I can't hurt. Forget & ignore everything they've lied to you about eating & good health ... IMHO These are the foods I eat, and available in TH. More Keto approved food at link. I'm far from strict Keto diet, hence 'keto-ish' https://www.drberg.com/ketosis-approved-foods
  23. Polished off the rest of the pulled pork, with a side of scrambled, or is it my usual scrambled eggs w/side of pulled pork. Only cooked the eggs for a bit more substance, and the dog is also on the eggs w/dog food diet/lifestyle. Keeping with the low sugar lifestyle, and not a low carb lifestyle. Choose your carbs wisely.
