  1. That sucks, though nice having what you need. I have both, thankfully, grateful and appreciative of both, though worked for it. Actually can't think of what to spend money on, unless going really frivolous, and it's not in my thrifty nature. I buy enough silly expensive stuff, really can't think of what else to get. It's a good place to be. Always had enough, even though a few times, just barely enough, but this is different, and very nice. Good for the wife, even though thrifty herself, spends a bit on her smile. The damn kid, too independent for me to buy her stuff. Tried a couple times and she said, nope, she'd buy, as like paying her own way. Love & hate that about her. Wife's retirement & our oops fund has grown quite a bit, since kid graduated Uni.
  2. As I stated, govt & legal thing, hard to get around if they have the information. I've avoided more than I paid (taxes) by not offering information. When I was getting Soc Sec (disability), at court, judge asked if I was incarcerated ... I'm like ... "What ?" He pointed out I had 6 years of 'no income' ... "self employed your honor, it's was hard economic times. Good thing wife or gf was employed"
  3. I avoid as many as possible. When in USA, I certainly didn't offer my true income when doing taxes, and only paid tax on what they knew about. Which was a fraction of my income. Didn't pay taxes on rental income or most of self employment income. Only if it was reported to IRS. My tax liability in the USA was ~40% some years. Just Federal tax, now @ 35% when breaking $243,725 to $609,350. Actually it was 37% when I lived there. Then have to add on state tax, and city tax, if applicable. Pennsylvania had income tax @ 3%. Last 5 yrs working, lived in Tennessee, no income tax Here in TH, there basically are no taxes to pay (so far), except VAT, and everyone pays that. One of the major pluses of living here. Aside from income tax, RE Taxes were running my ~$6,000 a year. That was 25 years ago
  4. Wife has had eye surgery at Chula, and I've had a few basic procedures (check up) done at Chula. Excellent service & pricing. Though having a Thai speaker is an advantage, though not really needed, IF, you are a patient people person. No overnight for either of us. They do have long Qs (months) for basic services, since most popular govt hosp. in most populated city. Can pay extra for 'off hours' services. As stated above, would think any non 4 person room is reserved months in advance. We did our yearly or abouts, 'health check ups" at Camillian Hosp, Thong Lo area, when living in Udon Thani. Now I do locally at PKK govt hosp.
  5. I accept the rules (mostly) on a govt / legal level. But as far as living under another persons rules / lifestyle I don't agree with, NO. Why would I subject myself to being unhappy, for someone else's benefit. I do what I want, when I want. I don't cower & comply to other people.
  6. Holy crap ... I just figured out how much Medicare A, B, D would cost me per month, plus late registrations. And the yearly deductible, before they even kick in. What a joke ... Base monthly + 60 month penalty Base rate for B & D ($174.70 & $34.70) $317.22 monthly Plan A (free) B D $3806.64 yearly Plan A (free) B D $1632 plan A yearly deductible + $408 per day, for 60+ per day in hospital $240 plan B yearly deductible + 20% deductible when using $7550 plan D yearly deductible ... meds not covered under plan B Annual deductible of $13,228.24 / ฿445,451 before coverage kicks in, then deductibles for actually using, for specialist & drugs needed, if have an oops or ongoing issue. I don't think I can get that sick in Thailand. And meds cost about the same price in TH as the monthly deductible per script. Gave up getting info for Plan C monthly cost ... Dental & Eye coverage Aside from the ฿8081 annual deduction paid before coverage even starts. edit ... if I returned to USA to live. Obviously, never going to happen. Too expensive to get sick
  7. And the millions new immigrants getting in legally or millions sneaking in. Only the poorest of the poor (mostly) seeking a better life in Thailand from abroad. If I still had my RE, I'd think about splitting my time, USA/TH, or all USA. Especially if daughter would come with us. But to start over again, too much hassle and a bit expensive. Too settled in here, and quite enjoying the uncomplicated life. What we have here, would cost 3-5 times as much there, along with monthly payments (RE Taxes) for the privilege of just being there. That's just silly. Aside from any healthcare I may need the next 10 years.
  8. Garden produced the veggies 😁 I really need to buy a fishing rod
  9. Why should they cover the damage, as it was no fault of Neta. She had an accident, so it's claimed on her accident insurance.
  10. If I 45 years old again, and was looking for a place to retire in 2025, it certainly wouldn't be Thailand.
  11. Guess it pays to poor & liquid. Reckon they'll honor the DTAs, so leaves only my company pension, a pittance, and goes to my brokerage account, which I'm not sure they'll have access to, and only $4284 a year @ $1 / ฿33 = ฿141,372, leaves -0- taxable after allowances One visit to a hospital in USA would negate 20 years of any 'tax savings' for a Yank, if I lived that much longer The couple procedures I've had done here cost less than the 4 years or Medicare Plan B premiums, ~$8,000 I would have paid already Matter fact, make that all my medical expenses I've had the past 24 years of being here, cost <$8,000
  12. Had this one for a couple years, and does everything quite well. Info from Panasonic site info from label on back of:
  13. Do one more month of budget, as going to be too easy. Still have 7-10 days of protein in the freezer. So all we need to shop for is fruits & veggies. Garden in producing butternut squash, asparagus, and the spinach grows wild. Still have FZ corn, blueberries, strawberries & tater tots. Went to Makro once, eggs, milk (for kefir/yogurt) and pork ribs. 565 ... Makro 310 ... coffee shop 120 ... lite surfside munch That's it and todays the 8th Food wise, can't think of what we'll need to buy, besides eggs & milk. At least one O&A, HH, then up to BKK. 1000 ... Hua Hin, one night (12 th) 500 .. BKK, (13 & 14th), since staying with daughter/no hotel. That's for car top up, and munchies. Add a night maybe, at restaurant. Probably stop on way back, maybe, so at most 3000 more. That will be half the month and maybe 5000 spent.
  14. I've always had to provide income info, with backing information to verify. Since 'letter of income' from embassy, not valid since 2019, then monthly income DD with tracking required for extension. A couple time, lump sum 400k or 800k, and didn't seem to care where came from, just verify it's there. First retirement ext after Jan 2019, bank account not set up for DD, so lump sum 800k, and not asked where from. Hua Hin Imm office requires 3 statement from bank for extension based on monthly income ... ... balance ... source, includes tracking info ... statement of account activity Once the bank paperwork was screwed, and ask if have 400k to put in bank, "yes", do that and come back in 1 month, then the 30 days for approval after, apparently qualified for 2 months 'seasoning'. Surprised about that. Didn't ask where funds came from. Now on retirement ext, via monthly income, DD of Soc Sec, w/tracking.

Buy a better mattress. We don't feel the other moving at all while sleeping. Best sleeps ever since buying a quality mattress. Not cheap, but worth every baht.
  16. If you have to ask that question, then you simply don't understand, and it can't be explained to you.
  17. Yep ... all is good, better than expected. Dog, kid, wife all healthy. Don't want for nothing. Already pass expiration date for Yanks born in 1954. Passed most family members age, and knocking on some of the oldest. No health issue interfering with daily life. Almost keep myself busy and active. Really can't think of any negatives. Blessed & appreciative of every day forward.
  18. USA certainly has a few issues when it comes to owning a BEV. Mind boggling how this 3rd world country seems to be more advanced in that area. Embarrassing actually, for the USA
  19. Just started watching, love his channel, and his #1, pro ... INDEPENDENCE, and the #1 reason for me, having BEVs & Solar. Performance & savings next, in that order, which I'm sure he'll get to ... now back to vid 😎
  20. Your joking right ... and you're driving what, that 18 yr old thing still ? 2.73 M, and that's not even the hybrid price (start 3.2M) Their website sucks ... very little info, and what little info available, shows quite the under preforming POS
  21. Just a 5 year investment & return averages 39% yearly. Don't think the stock holders are crying much.
