Why did you marry? And maybe why did you do it again?
KhunLA replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That's not even a good, necessary reason today. Simply being on the birth certificate is more than enough. -

What is 1 good, real reason to get married ? ... as I can't think of one. I can think of reason not to get married, especially in the west, USA, but not to get married. -

Got married at 25, 30? USA & 45 & 59/TH, so not young & dumb. No birth/blood children. Raised 2 kids in USA for a few year (5?), w/ live in GF. Daughter here, TH, 21 ish yrs & ongoing, village orphan, parents MIA, grandparents (unsupportive/cash poor). She's self sufficient now. No major negatives of first 3 marriages/divorces, mentally or any financial loss or even sharing of assets. No regrets or complaints. -

Here, TH, I really don't see a reason for or against marriage, since we can't really acquire assets worth much in our name, except condos. The village thing & sin sot, no thanks, I don't buy people, and would simply rent, probably cheaper anyway. If married before or have kids already, you're simply getting scammed. No Thai pays new price for used goods. Unless a bit skint, and all you can rustle is 40k a month/400k a year, in which case, should you really be living in a foreign country without the safety net of your country's social programs. Most after 50 yrs of working should have attained enough asset, equity, even if losing 50% to a divorce before coming here to live comfortably. Choose the right area, and you don't even need transport, as one of the most expensive drains on monthly finances, aside from rent. Marriage to make things easier or cheaper, isn't a good reason. Add cheating on your spouse, and do you really have to wonder why you are in the miserable state that some are. Some would simply consider that being an a-whole in a different location. -
Didn't recommend anything, as been almost 10 yrs since there. Future reference for anyone, we stayed at Nalinthone GH, riverside to the west of 'downtown' & riverside market. Nice area, quite with plenty of good food/restaurants in the area. Had parking, a plus, since we self drove. Worth taking a peek, along with others nearby, w/more amenities, if going: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nalinthone+Guesthouse/@17.96644,102.5890939,1923m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m25!1m16!4m15!1m6!1m2!1s0x312468f5f4e2282f:0xfa6e516153e6ec1a!2sNalinthone+Guesthouse!2m2!1d102.5942284!2d17.9664318!1m6!1m2!1s0x312468f5f4e2282f:0xfa6e516153e6ec1a!2sNalinthone+Guesthouse,+Quai+Fa+Ngum,+Vientiane,+Laos!2m2!1d102.5942284!2d17.9664318!3e0!3m7!1s0x312468f5f4e2282f:0xfa6e516153e6ec1a!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d17.9664318!4d102.5942284

I didn't do the kid thing, early on, as waited till I knew I had the finance to allow me to have the time to raise a wee one. Actually the now wife, was part of that, since having the 'daughter' and know she would need a woman in her life also. Since compatible to both, after 8 yrs of living together, marriage wasn't much of a leap. -

One of the first, if not the first, inter-racial (woke moment), of a televised kiss (black/white), along with chickie kissisng chickie in one eps. OMG 10 yrs prior Shatner kissed an Asian in TV. Say what ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk_and_Uhura's_kiss -
Probably to pick up so money she earned for voting in favor of some Chinese or Taiwan tax breaks she pushed through. Get some inside trading tips, but what ever it is, its self serving, as been her whole career.

Agree 100%. If not married, I couldn't not invest in RE the first 19 yrs here. I would have had to wait till daughter was 20, since not a fan of condo market. Three house and 9 plots of land later, and I've basically lived here rent free for 22 yrs in houses I had built. Renting only while in between owning with wife #3 & GF now wife #4. Within 1 or 2 yrs of marriage, you'll know if investing is a good idea or not. If skeptical, simply don't. No rocket science needed. Could have stayed vested in the stock market, if not wanting to touch savings, but that's actually work, and not what I consider retired, which I came here to do. That extra 10-25k a month saved on owning vs renting, wife & daughter are welcome to it, after I depart. -
The rags to riches story of the latest Miss Universe Thailand
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
IQ means nothing. Ability to learn has nothing to do with being able to think & do. Desire & motivation is all it takes. Test out a few good idea and you're on your way. -
Don't know about all that. But nice for tourists & expats that didn't have a conx. It been and always will be readily available to anyone wanting. All the seller coming out of the shadows proves that. Stimulants & firearms ... no shortage here and have had or been offered pretty much everything & anything here, villages of Udon Thani anyway. Legally delivered to the house is nice though.

OP's suggestion ... looking at Gmaps, think most other offerings would appeal to me other than their breakfasts. The usual sausage (hot dog) & sandwich ham is a turn off. Salads, pizzas & burger look much better ????

Two highway bridges collapse in last two days
KhunLA replied to Kinnock's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
That would be literally impossible, in all countries with upgrading and maintaining the roadway infrastructure. Remember Rama 2/ 35 twenty years ago, just a few lanes, and now what, 12 ish lanes in some stretches. Same with hwy # 9, was 2 lanes, not even paved for long stretches, and now again, 12ish lanes along some stretches. Thailand has done an excellent job, keeping up with the expansion of the middle class and amount of vehicles, and truck commerce on the road. Take a look at their neighbors, and 1 main reason I don't live in any of those countries. -
Solar power, can it be done DIY?
KhunLA replied to Sophon's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
If you got the crew, tools & knowledge, any thing can be DIY. Will Prowse can hold your hand along the way: https://www.youtube.com/c/WillProwse Besides a couple on the forum. Price your system, components, then compare to same installed for you. I did just that, and for me, the installed price came in close enough for me to not bother, since not having the crew, tools or experience. -
You could also use your reward points for hotel stays. I burned all my remaining TG/UA reward points that way staying at Sheraton, knowing I wouldn't be flying with them any more.

Like it's never happened in any other country. Thankfully, though not for the victims, minimal loss of life & injuries. Just think if completed, and collapse with a loaded petrol tanker on it, at rush hour ???? Or was this one of the complete U-turns ? I know I've probably driven under it at least 10 times in the past year. I think I'll continue to enter the city as have been of late, over the Sathorn bridge via 3242 and or 4.

5kW system with 10kW ESS question
KhunLA replied to MJCM's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Yes, that steered me away from ordering myself, the ESS for our system. Went with the installer's supplier. Priced a couple name brand, and decent price door to door, but not duty inclusive. Something that heavy or expensive is going to be noticed. -

There are NO reasons not to be successful, only excuses. -
This answers the query, and since 'made in Japan', to import it would make pricing uncompetitive. "The Suzuki Xbee (Japanese: スズキ・クロスビー, Hepburn: Suzuki Kurosubī) (pronounced "Crossbee") is a crossover city car produced by the Japanese carmaker Suzuki since December 2017 to be sold exclusively in Japan." - wiki

Also been adapting and adjusting to the unfriendly economic times, the past few decades. Moved almost entirely to self sufficiency, this past adjustment. Should be the last. Each move has brought rewards financially and mentally. ROI are instant mentally, and within 5 yrs financially, as is the present adjustment.
