Agree Any country that has that many UN resolutions against them, and simply ignores them should start to have some 'sanctions' imposed on them. That doesn't even include the ones proposed that the USA has vetoed. Maybe the citizens will wake up, and start insisting their govt be a bit more humane to people.

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Maybe that's their goal, and with some of the behavior of some expats, can you blame them. Considering most of the hatred of TH and Thais on this forum, I can wonder why they would want many here. -
Surprised more than a few would rather work till they keel over, than retire. Thoughts of retirement gave me the drive to produce as fast as I comfortably could while still having fun. Seriously could not have imagined me working another 20 yrs, to 'retirement age' let along any longer.

I'm more a 'weed, whites & wine' guy myself, though pass on the whites. Maybe a tab, dot or pane of something else 😎

Thailand will go further than legalising same-sex marriage – PM
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Lowering the age of consent certainly wouldn't surprise anyone, especially with talk of sex workers being legal, since defacto already. Definitely lower the 'adulthood' age from 20 down to at least 18, so they can work in the bars/brothels/karaoke bars. Casinos seem to be back in the headlines Ganga already basically legal. Next ... Soon alcohol available (officially) 24 hrs ... ROCK ON -
I was bored out of my mind in Pattaya
KhunLA replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You are one depressing person. Life is a joy, and no reason not to be, unless you dog, kid or wife just died. Even when I had nothing, I don't think I was ever as depressing, unhappy as you. I hope real life conversations don't mirror you online presence, and would explain quite a bit. I've been married 4 times, had 30+ jobs, and never even close to your state of unhappiness/depression. Or shall I say, it passed in a week. Lost apartment, wife, car & job, all in the same week, and got over it ... within a week later. None of it was sudden, so easy enough to roll with. -
When was the last time you were at any of those beaches, as I'm along the Gulf coast (west) quite a bit, and haven't seen what you describe, if there are vendors nearby. From Hua Hin down to Chumphon. Do you really want to be on a beach, where nobody is at. They don't go there for reason. If nobody there, nobody to maintain any cleanliness, even if just natural 'trash'. Things have improved greatly since I've been in TH ... IMHO. All the beaches I've mentioned or suggested, large or small, are fairly spotless of garbage.

That was a lot more about the cleaner, than the city, expensive or not, as didn't complain about cost. If retiring in a more expensive country, then have more funds. If I planned on retiring in the USA, I would not have liquidated my RE, or stopped trading in the market. Which would have provided steady income, and much bigger oops fund, in just a few year, as in 3 maybe, if not less. If not such a LPOS, and having so much fun the last 10 years of 'employment', could have retired much earlier, just didn't see the need or desire to.

Like Ban Krut also, but that would add 2 ish more hours from Hua Hin, and even 1 more to TWL beach.

My last 10 yrs was usually a 2 day work week (back to back), leaving 5 days off. Only reason I lasted as long as I did there. No way could I do 9-5/5 days a week, for my last 10 yrs of employment. Bennies helped also for keeping me there. That was 33 yrs ago.

I suspected that, but since not sure, made my suggestion. NO, didn't check, as don't care, that would be the OP's responsibility. Since he didn't have a real plan, if a flight did go near a beach, win win. Although considering 8-10 drive time, and a conx or direct flight certainly wouldn't be a turn off for myself. Though I do enjoy self driving & no time limits.

Probably why I stated "pick a non stop" ... ... but feel free to paraphrase me, if it fits your spin

Good choice, and I'd stay toward the southern end of the beach. Not a fan of downtown-ish, actually HH beach area. Maybe 1 night to check out the night market areas. Baht buses are convenient, as there is literally no parking at most of HH, unless at one of the malls/shopping centers.

What, if anything, would make you move back Home?
KhunLA replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
to the title ... ... dog, daughter & wife would have to die, for me to leave TH. As then no real reason to stay, though not sure I'd leave even then. Would take year or 3, after I liquidated to travel around a bit, USA and few other places; Cuba, Belize, Costa Rico, Puerto Rico, RU & CH. That would take a couple years. No real desire to live in the USA again, as did that for 45 yrs already, and most places don't get better with time -
Since just looking, I'd go to Phuket, as less expensive all around, since 'off' season. Or Hua Hin if not minding the 10 ish hours of driving time. If having the time, could split that with a night at Krung Thep, or abouts.

No, I don't do massages, free or paid, and don't do P4P, as simply don't need to. Paying for sex doesn't interest me at all, and takes away half the adventure, experience. Enjoying the company of a like minded person is much more enjoyable ... IMHO I guess P4P has it's place for many, and sampled myself 2X, and that was enough to realize, it's not really for me. Might have it's place for introverts, or on a short holiday and having the urge.

British mum’s dengue fever warning after son’s Thai holiday tragedy
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If I was in Laos, or TH, and felt ill, munched on by mozzies, and felt the need to go to a doc or hospital, first thing I do is ask for a dengue test. That uncommon common sense. If treated early, most survive, especially if younger & healthy. -
Also retired at 45/46 yrs old, now 69, and if had say, about 5 happy massages a month (5.2 exactly), that would be knocking on 1500. Sad part would be if retired, living in TH, and actually had to P4P. Nothing I'd be bragging about

British mum’s dengue fever warning after son’s Thai holiday tragedy
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Sorry ... broken record ... again ... Research & common sense. Going to a foreign country, maybe one should research any travel warnings for said country Better research = happier, longer life. A little trivia ... most deadly animal on the planet... ... mosquitoes -
Myself, been around/with 10s of 1000s as I use to attend a lot of concerts.

How to retire in Thailand
KhunLA replied to CharlieH's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Big if ... why I stated 'most'. You're the first that has mentioned actually doing that. I don't think allowed at Udon Thani, Nong Khai or Prachuap, though I may be mistaken. Prachuap Khiri Khan might, but has to remain in all year, as recall thinking, why bother, since married, just put in for 2 months (for marriage ext), and I can take it when and if, I want/need. Wish people would post which provinces actually allow that rule. -
I'm sure it's just a coincidence ... USA ... Born 1954 (me), male life expectancy is 66.7 yrs. USA Soc Sec age of full retirement benefits is 66, born 1960, now 67. USA ... Male life expectancy if born 1960 ... 66.7 yrs Why pension funds are not fully vested, as they know, they'll never need to pay out that much. IAM union average monthly pay outs for our local union was 18 months. For my job classification, only 11 months.
