Former British Hua Hin Resident Sentenced For Murder
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is not a normal situation at all, he essentially murdered a stranger for no apparent reason and got caught this time. I wonder how many times he's done it before? -
Personal Data Protection Law comes into force on June 1

You can make your own very easily and not need to trust any third party. -
There's a lesson to be learned here - always plan far ahead when it comes to everything - and I mean everything. I did a passport renewal last summer and it took several months to complete - which is pathetic but you have to plan for their failure as they often fail. My father renewed his driving license in the UK and they needed to check something with his Doctor as he had a pacemaker fitted - that simple license renewal took almost a year before it arrived in the post and he applied months before it expired. Assume the worst and maybe you will be occasionally surprised by prompt service.

Ok, I see the problem here - you need a new bank and almost certainly a working mobile phone number back in your origin country / countries. -

CCSA Expects to Announce Covid an Endemic Disease Soon
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One thing's for sure, if it's ever declared endemic then there's definitely no need for any kind of 'Thailand Pass' If they keep the Thailand Pass then it's an obvious lie. -
Are Agricultural Crops On Unused Land Just A Tax Dodge?
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes they are. If someone owns it then they're going to pay tax on it unless it's 'being used' for something. -
In other words, the government is potentially planning to introduce a 7% VAT rate on crypto transactions from the beginning of 2024. I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that this will not happen at all and there will likely be a series of never ending extensions just like this one, but if it does happen then the effect will be quite large and result in the exit of every company working in the sector from inside Thailand.

So what? Dig deep enough and you're going to find this kind of <deleted> everywhere. -
It will turn out to be a temporary measure as is everything. Give it a few months and all restrictions will be removed - and definitely before the high season this winter. What happens during the summer months doesn't really have that much impact. I reckon this 'pass' will be gone by some time in August, when a lot of people will be planning trips.

U.S. Defense Secretary to Visit Thailand in June
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Maybe he will visit the new 'consulate' in Chiang Mai during his trip? -
I'm sure there are plenty of very highly talented and likely highly paid security professionals in Thailand, I wonder how many of them work for any kind of government agency though? I would suspect the real highly trained staff work for the larger corporations. One question springs to mind, does Thailand have an equivalent of GCHQ / NSA, etc ?
