  1. "There are a lot of expats that really cannot afford to be here." Name them. You missed "In my opinion" at the start of that sentence. Too many smug types on here, with more money than sense making that assumption. Maybe you should have said "Too many tourists with no insurance who can't afford to have accidents here".
  2. To be honest, I still don't know. After I'd been turned down for the umpteenth time, I received an email from them asking what I thought of their service, so I let them have it with both barrels. Next day, I got a phone call from a supervisor, who was very nice and polite asking basically for documents which I'd already sent. So I resent them. Anyway, next thing I knew, I received an email saying that my verification had been approved. My honest opinion is that their people responsible for verification aren't completely competent and err too far on the side of caution. This is causing a lot of possibly good clients to be turned down when in fact they have the qualifications to be accepted. Keep plugging, I'm sure you'll get there in the end.
  3. Bitkub seems good so far, large selection of alts, so too has Zipmex. If you choose Bitkub, be prepared for a long fight to get your verification approved. It took months of being refused before I was accepted. Zipmex was straight forward and quick.
  4. How about if you're an ex UK civil servant and have no option but to pay tax in that country? Would you pay the tax from crypto gains on Thai exchanges to Thailand or UK?
  5. I've been on the verge of blocking swissie several times in the past, but for some reason decided not to. This time, he's gone. Life can throw up enough problems without this guy seeming to delight in seeing people suffer. I reckon sometime or other, a fellow farang must've p..... in his beer.
  6. I voted for #3. I'm convinced that I can cover any eventuality by self insuring, I've paid cash for the few minor treatments I've had over the 15 years I've been here. However, I'm 77 and even if I could find someone to insure me, my savings wouldn't last too long if I had to part with premiums of 100000+ every year. Unless they make mandatory insurance a requirement of the non o retirement visa, the only way I'll be leaving here is as smoke up the wat chimney.
  7. "So not first time visiting thialand but my first time whilst covid measures are in place, in the past I never bothered with insurance (yes yes I know.. kinda dumb but luckily I've never needed it). " Only if you don't have sufficient savings in the the bank to self insure. Some of us don't like throwing loads of money away every year in the knowledge that if we ever do make a claim, the company will find an excuse to refuse a full payout, or make any payment at all. That's assuming you can get anyone to insure you at all (old age, existing condition etc).
  8. You're a good little boy scout. A lot depends on how much money you have in the bank, I get the feeling you're rolling in it.
  9. Saw a recent documentary about Panama and the incessant blaring of car horns would put me off living in the place. I thought the same when I visited Greece. I'm not sure where I'd move to if they brought in compulsory medical insurance for O visa people, certainly not back to UK, but I'd be forced to move elsewhere. If it wasn't for my missus and stepdaughter I'd do like the OP is doing and make a move now.
  10. Arrest a few gathering for a drink, but the fuzz were their making preparations for the two day eardrum pounding...sorry music festival. No crowds gathering there then! Maybe the absensce of booze will keep the virus at bay.
  11. I drink every day of the years and love doing so. If that makes me an alcoholic, so be it. I'm 77 yoa and as well as drinking quite a bit, manage to exercise daily, do all my own gardening and odd jobs and am sharp mentally. I buy my whisky in bulk in case some bright spark thinks of imposing an outright ban. I very rarely go to restaurants anyway, but I fail to see the difference in having a meal with a glass of wine to sitting there supping water or pop.
  12. In view of the recent raids by the fuzz on people partying in their own homes, I'd say that you were mighty lucky to have gotten away with it.
  13. Or when half the population of the capitol descends on Pattaya every weekend and public holiday, alcohol or no alcohol.
  14. Maybe he doesn't want to sit drinking in his hotel room. If I was a tourist here, neither would I. I gather that was his meaning.
  15. A couple of years back at Jomtien, they wouldn't issue a residence cert for opening a bank account. Told me I needed a letter from embassy, that they'd only issue RC for driving license application. I ended up agreeing to buy a year's accident insurance for Bangkok Bank to open an account for me.
  16. I must've dreamed that year I spent on active duty in the jungles of Borneo in the early sixties.
  17. I've just read my emails and discovered that my verification has been approved at last. It took many many attempts and a forest of documents, but I got there in the end. If i hadn't desperately wanted access to their alts I'd have given up long ago.
  18. My wife has deposited funds from her bank, but I've yet to. I've been using Bitcoin which I transferred from Coins Co th.
  19. I've started using Bitmex who the wife is with. They have a fair few alts and seem to have a bit of "get up and go about them". I noticed when I visited Bangkok yesterday a lot of Bitmex advertising boards. You can also gain interest from their Z wallets.
  20. I've used Binance for a while now and Bitstamp, but I'd like to be with a good exchange in Thailand which has a large selection of alts. Actually, I use Binance quite seldom since my UK bank and visa credit card stopped me depositing cash to them. If there's an alt I particularly want, I have to use my Bitcoin and then top up my BTC at Bitstamp if I choose to.
  21. I'm still trying to be approved for level 1. I've sent them every document known to man and still been refused verification. I buy Bitcoin from Coins Co TH, but I want a Thai exchange with a good selection of altcoins, which Bitkub has. Every year I use my docs to have my visa extension approved and I had no problem becoming a client of my local banks. I think the problem is that Bitkub's verification team aren't qualified to scrutinise documents printed in English, don't realise that the UK doesn't issue national ID cards and can't understand Thai Immigration visa stamps. I'm still trying and will continue to badger them until I'm accepted, but the process is taking a lot of time and effort.
  22. Never had a hole in one in 60+ years of playing. Never been close. Always swore that if I got one I'd walk away from the game forever. Go out on a high so to speak. Would've save me years of misery, lost sleep, money and agro from my ex wives.
  23. People have a right to moan wherever they are, personally I'd rather moan here than anywhere else. I think those who imply that they don't complain are hypocrites, especially the "If you don't like it here why don't you leave" crowd.
