The year is not over, rainy season until end of October. But in total I think the amount of rain is still behind average. We now had plenty of rain but part of the crop (rice) has already died (for those don't have pumps etc.). Only few areas have reached a normal level. But not nearly as bad as the terrible drought 2014.

As writte above: checked Advice online and they have a bunch of 500 GB to 1 TB external SSDs. There was a lot of news about Sandisk (Extreme) having problems with their SSDs failing quickly. I still stick to HDDs for external backup.

Lost in translation: Thai road sign riddle baffles tourists
KhunBENQ replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Nicely said. It's pure utter chaos. Few follow the "dictionary" (RTGS). Most give in to the English dominated spelling. Jomtien sounds completely different when read by non English. And who has ever seen Chom Thian by the rules? And "my girlfriend Porn" will always resurface as a joke while the joke is the stupid "r" in Porn. It's a fun topic until you try to find a location on a map/GPS by its English spelling. And the idea of a near correct pronounciation by these transcripts is hopeless. I bet 9 out of 10 expats don't come anywhere close to a correct pronounciation of Pattaya. -
My first visit was in 2004 and I can't remember anything but one way. I've seen some decades old videos from the late 80s or so when there was both way traffic. What I seem to have missed: there were some exceptional days with two ways for special events?

Most comfortable Flight BKK-NYC
KhunBENQ replied to THAIPHUKET's topic in Suvarnabhumi Airport Forum
Stop and change plane in Dubai DXB (United Arab Emirates). If I got your question right. There is a flight departing 21:25 (9:25 PM), arriving 8:50 AM next day (New York 11 hours after Bangkok time). Stopover duration 2 hours. Total time 22h 25min. BKK to DXB flight time 6:25 hours (Boeing 777). DXB to JFK 14 hours! (Airbus A380). Other flight departs at 3:30 AM. Would kill me to hang around most of the night waiting for departure. -

90 Day Count Verification
KhunBENQ replied to AAArdvark's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Similar to a mate who will visit KK office next week and hopes to get an explanation. He had successful reports in the past until some time it started to reject every attempt. -
90 Day Count Verification
KhunBENQ replied to AAArdvark's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
In my picture the pixelated area at "SIGNATURE" shows title and name of a Khon Kaen immigration officer. Not in the picture: on top at "TITLE" it shows title, name and office (Khon Kaen). Title and name of the (female) officer, Khon Kaen immigration office (red underline): -

Where is the domestic departures @ suvarnabhumi airport?
KhunBENQ replied to sanook 1's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
How much time does he have from scheduled arrival to departure? Arrival time? Will give an idea whether it is really tight. The walk from international exit to domestic check in is the least problem compared to queues at immigration, check in at Thaismile. Economy? After check in there is a usually moderate queue to identity check for domestic. Security check is close to the the domestic gate. Be prepared for total three(!) identity checks (passport and boarding card always at hand). Walk to the domestic gate can be much longer than walk from international to domestic check in. Walkways help. -

I get a bit tired to comment in detail on another thread about this bloody nonsense policy. But "easing public burden" is yet another highlight. Save 2 Baht here and pay 5 Baht more at the fresh market/supermarket/food stall/court.

Money in the Bank Method
KhunBENQ replied to bluemoon58's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Even at the relaxed Khon Kaen office I was reminded last year to update the bank book SAME DAY (was from previous day as all the years before). The letter can be from one or two days before. A mate did his extension last Wednesday with letter from Monday and book update same day. But as usual: depends on office/mood of (new) boss etc.
