Anyone know if/ how long banks etc will be closed, and will public transport be stopped for any time?

Thanks.

P S. I now know that the 26th is to be a public holiday, but will there be closures any other days during the 5 days of the ceremony?

I'm in a situation in which I may have no choice but to travel.

These are the holidays for October when banks, immigration and ect will be closed.

13 October (Friday) King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Passing
23 October (Monday) Chulalongkorn Day
26 October (Thursday) King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Cremation

Public transport would not be shutdown for any of those days. Transport near Suan Luan will be affected leading up to the 26th and and after for a few days.

Take care i dont think anyone really knows whats going to happen. Given the love for the Late King by all thai's.  I have a suspicion there will be total shutdowns for a few days.

Indeed for the whole of the week Monday 23rd - Friday 27th at the very least, I strongly suspect.

Royal cremation ceremonies to be held Oct 25-29

The above includes three additional public holiday options floated back in April on which AFAIK no decision has been made.

"The first is to declare October 25 and October 27 as national holidays too, so that people from the provinces can travel to Bangkok for the ceremonies and then travel back in time to work again.

The second is for October 25 and October 27 to be holidays for people living outside Bangkok and its adjacent provinces.

The third is to not declare any additional holiday and let people decide themselves how they can attend."

The actual cremation is on 26th which is the only officially sanctioned national holiday but best plan on a 1 to 3 days of possible inconveniences.

It would be nice to have something concrete to go on in regards to this time period. Are the bars, restaurants, night action venues going to be open?. There are no doubt a substantial number of visitors that might change their plans if they knew these places were closed. To keep people in the dark seems to be the Thai way. I for one would like to know what my options will be for a night or two out on the town during this period will be. If there is going to be a complete shut down then I can make plans to head to Phnom Penh or Angeles City. Thanks to Thai ineptitude or simply a don't care attitude myself and a large number of people are left in the dark.

Please stop insulting Thais on a non bashing thread.

If you aren't happy with the information available, why don't you assume a week long shut down and plan accordingly? I shall probably amend my plans that way, due to information posted on here.
