BMA prepares area beneath Phong Phraram Tollway for street vendors

BANGKOK, 12th September 2017 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is setting up free vendor space beneath Phong Phraram Tollway in Pathum Wan district, to assist street hawkers displaced by the capital's cleanup program.

The BMA has identified three, rent-free locations for street vendors, consisting of Vibhavadi Rangsit Forest Park in Din Daeng district, in front of the Bang Na District Office, and beneath Phong Phraram Tollway nearby Phong Phra Ram Intersection, which is owned by the Expressway Authority of Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works of Pathum Wan District has surveyed and prepared the 4-rai plot of land, which had previously been turned into a public park. It has one entrance, but no parking lots, and is situated near the Krua Tai community.

Officials have already laid asphalt and painted lines dividing stalls as well as providing traffic access routes. They are now in the process of adding parking lots and an electricity system, while the SCG has agreed to build public toilets.

Some vendors have already set up shop and the area will officially open by the end of this month.

Vendors are required to shut up shop by 3:00 pm and move all of their belongings out of the park.
