Hi everybody

I recently arrived in Central Thailand on a one year renewable Retirement Visa.

I will likely convert this to a Marriage Visa before the one year expiration.

My intentions are to remain in Thailand with my wife to be long term.

Im seeking info from anyone who has successfully financed a car with a 30 percent down payment or similar. Preference is new 2017 Toyota Yaris or equivalent. Will look at used if no older than 2014.

Most info Ive seen seems to mandate a work permit.

Well Im retired on a very good military pension (actually two) and can easily cover a monthly re payment. I can prove my income too.

So can I impose on those of you with experience getting finance to take a moment to bring me up to speed please?

And if possible any recomendations as to who you did it through.

My wife to be, is a retited teacher with good english so acts as my translator/interpreter with local people.

Thank you for reading.

Don't worry to much

But the usual deposit for car in your name is 50 % & just tell them the purchase wont happen if not in your name & also get a Thai Drivers Lisc

They can do anything here as they did for me & i'm not here full time & i was even sitting down with the Toyota finance man & the rep

With interest rates like that I'd rather ride a motorbike for a few years and save money until I can buy cash. I would get a newer and probably improved model, too.

I don't disagree, paid cash for my car, bike and condo in LOS, as well as all car purchases in my home country, I hate buying anything on credit. Just thought it might be of interest to the OP as a easy way to get on the road without having to depend on others.

Get the car on finance in your wife name when your married officially.

Yes easy to do with 50 % deposite & you as Guarantor (my wife was Guarantor for me who is a house wife ) - As Toyota mentioned to me (but I said no or no sale)

I just got a top range Sienta in my name through Toyota Finance of 50 % of value on a Non O Mariage Multi entry (as I'm still working abroad ) & they deduct the payments from my Thai bank

I also consider their interest rate a bit steep at 2.5 % considering what other makes are offering

Car/truck purchases on finance depend on many different situations,  income, age & deposit.

My wife is over 50 so had to pay a life insurance payment included in the repayment, they took into account some % of my pension not all because l'm 70.

I didn't think % repayment cost was high on a new car it's a great deal more on s/h vehicles.

IMO best to buy s/h cash privately.

To everyone that posted a comment...thank you.

Have a brand new Toyota 30% down over 48 months. Future wife and her Son on the paperwork. Happy camper.

Appreciate everyone's comments.

Thanks again.

Just put it in your wife's name, easier to get finance, its just a vehicle after all which will end up  being worth nothing, its not the same as a  property purchase
