Same here in Chiangmai. I refuse to use a taxi. Never again. Same when I visit Bangkok.
So sick of these taxi idiots for so many years. I decided I was done a while back when I experienced some Uber rides. Absolutely no reason to use a scum taxi. I'd use Uber if it were more expensive!

It's still there. The socialist-controlled Transport for London Authority has withdrawn Uber's licence with effect from the end of this month, although they have the right of appeal.

The London Taxi Mafia and the Lisbon Taxi Mafia too....!

Love Uber and great value. But tipping a Uber driver is not something I encourage or will do. It is getting to the point where every person who works wants a tip. What ever happened to being nice and good service for a fair price?

Sorry to say,   the Americans did the tipping thing

and all round the world as well. :saai:

I love the Americans but not for this one.

This fight took place on the parking lot of Makro, opposite the bus station . A very dangerous spot indeed if your'e an UBER driver.

After my bus trip from Bangkok I booked an UBER car and it was very  difficult to locate the driver. He called me and explained about the taxi mafia and we agreed to meet inside Makro . Yes thats right I actually walked inside Makro and waited for him . He called me several times to make sure no taxi mafia were following me and finally I spotted the car and off we went . I was just happy to support the driver so I didn't mind waiting a few extra minutes .

But you have to avoid UBER around the bus station . Walk 200-300 meters up the soi before you open the UBER app.

The Pattaya Taxi Mafia are low-life's, but they get away with it because the cops are completely hand in pocket with them.

I have no time for Uber however, although in this case they might be the best alternative, but the company fails to obey the rules. Since Uber is illegal in Thailand it seems they are again flouting the rules, leaving drivers to fight it out.

Uber is banned in many cities and a few countries around the world with good reason.

In London they were told to adhere to the law or lose the licence.

Only now are they considering change. I hope TfL tell them to take a hike...

Tsk tsk. The Hon. Mayor of London said it's all to do with the immoral Uber not bothering to check and/or register the background of all it's drivers; ignoring those with sexual crime records.

Got to keep the ladies safe - Hail Sadiq. He who never lies and is never wrong.

Uber are not responsible for checking Drivers backgrounds thats TFLS responsibility its TFL ( Transport For London )  who issue the Licence to the Driver, 40,000 registered Uber Drivers in London, not all working , there are bound to be a few bad Apples there always has been in the mini cab trade and there always will be, this is the Black Cab Mafia at it again, the only difference between a Black Cab Driver and an Uber Driver is that the Black Cab has done the knowledge test and thats it ! the knowledge test is totally obsolete now due to Sat Nav Technology, today TFL have been told today that they must sit down with Uber and sort it out, so Uber is here to stay in London, Thankfully !

And the security guard is just standing by and doing F all.

tell me why he should? one on one....lets get it on with it. No pack 1 -10 and guns

Yesterday i saw a fight between a security guy and a drunk, strong punches were thrown, nobody intervened and in the end the drunk got a K>O. and it took 5 minutes before he could get up, no repeated kicking in the face, no further punches thrown when he was down and out.

Good lesson for one in this case

Even if the online protest has got as far as 600k it is a very small sample of the population.

Minorities do not rule by online vote! Even if they think they can. Dictatorships are not voted in by minorities.

Democracy is the will of the majority.

I agree with you Metapod. FWIW the exact same 3.6km journey using GrabTaxi is ฿235-. Oh, and a Pattaya Taxi charges at least ฿250- and one has the added inconvenience of having to flag down this mode of transport, from the side of the road.

Or possibly have to go to a location where the taxis have staked out and are commandeering all the parking.

Until they start to use their meters as supposedly required I will not use them.

I had hoped this conflict which was undermining Uber was behind us.... anything that reduces costs is generally positive.

While the focus of this video seems to be on two guys fighting in a parking lot; should have said boring fight!  What I wonder about is the security guards present in the video who seem to be walking about enjoying the show.  Guess anything beyond blowing the whistle is out of their job description.  Pretty sad!  Doc

hat percentage of price comparison  is UBER compared to pattaya mafia taxi ?    would UBER be much cheaper ?

never seen an UBER in pattaya as yet

In Pattaya UBER is much cheaper , a trip from S-Pattaya to Jomtien would be 100 baht with UBER and maybe 250 with the official "no meter" taxis.

In Bangkok the taxis use the meter so they are following the law and UBER is more expensive there. But people still use them because you'll get nicer cars and more polite drivers.
