Tourists can go without a drink its not that bad of a thing, and too bad for them everyone knew that oktober was the month that would be about the king. I think many people here are using the tourist as an excuse to moan because they themselves are inconvenienced.

Do you actually think your average  tourists would even think about the possibility of dry days or most likely that they would even  know about the "event"

The event is thailand news not world news

Do you think that tourists should always prevail over the locals their sensitivities ? I don't think so besides a dry day is not a real problem for most normal people. Might be annoying for bar flies but most people wont be bothered if they can't drink for a day.

Not many people care about one day - they just put up with it as it's no big deal.

However, this thread is talking about 9 days, that's something very different.

Do you think the Thais like this kind of thing ?

Hey bonehead,

I'm booked on a vacation to Hua Hin with my 80 year old mom and 70 yo cousin.  They are visiting Thailand and would like to drink wine with dinner. One day fine but I heard they were planning 9.

Good enough for you?

Tourist could check before they buy an airplane ticket what is going on in October in Thailand so if they didn't it's theyre one problem wow 9 days MAYBE no alcohol how to survive !!!!

You are aware people don't book flight tickets the day before they come right ? plus given nothing is official yet, how does your comment help anyone even if they did ?!!!

"local sensitivities" i doubt it will effect Thais that want to drink in the slightest as they know how to get around these things

i live in the countryside and actually dont drink much but i dare say the locals around me will carry on buying and drinking regardless whether it be 1 or 9 or 90 days

So alcoholics will try to get around the rules.. what else is new. Just saying that 1 day for a (normal) tourist is not a disaster but 9 would of course be more of a problem.

So what is the problem here ? Wow the farangs having a problem they can't buy/ drink alcohol bc they don't want to pay respect for the Late King Bhumibol. Dombo's......

Maybe they want to toast him with alcohol at his send off. I can't imagine a funeral without booze

I read that you feel very strongly about farangs showing respect, including respect of the law in Thailand...

So can you confirm to us that Thailand will be doing the same and closing all the sex shops/brothels, that are in fact illegal, as a sign of respect at this time.....?

Bar near me is Thai run and guess which is the nosiest right at this moment?  Why should I show respect whey the locals can't be bothered.

Well today is the 13th and the bars are closed here in my local town,[non tourist area- but lot of expats] however i went to a shop and brought a box of singha no problem, however i do think it will be different on 26th, i reckon most buisness will be closed,so stock up before,no problems. Of course if you are a tourist it is very inconvienient.

And what about the international tourists that arrive on day one of the ban with no chance of "buying in advance" who expect to have a drink on thier holiday?
Serves them right for choosing Hua hin. It's to quite in high season but totally deserted right now.

The cure is easy.. Ferry to Pattaya

Too bad so sad. They can go back to the airport immediately and fly back home.

Rubbish. The little shop keepers and peons are only given a little  bit of slack. This is to keep them docile. The country belongs to a small group of ruling families and their strategic allies.

Yes many of us are "guests", but  we are treated much better than most of the Thai population. We have material wealth.

Many foreigners sadly have the attitude i will do as i damn please. How dare you comment on their behavior. The Thais are much too kind to these losers.

As someone who has worked in the tourist game,I think you are mixing up tourists and expats

Many of these"losers " are bona fide tourists of various budgets coming for a holiday who frankly are unlikely to know about what's happening and to be honest care even less!

Either way  an extended dry period (if this is the case) they will not forget for sure tell their peers the result  is probably  not going to help a dwindling  source of western holidaymakers when other countries nearby  are available .
