Anyone know how to get an Amaysim SIM (Australia issued) to work in Thailand?

It won’t connect to another Thai provider resulting in lost messages and phone calls

I have:

-activated International roaming

-Tried manually connecting to Thai providers that display in the handsets settings

-Tried the SIM on numerous handsets

-Had a new SIM card sent to me by Amaysim

-Have spoken with Amaysim Support staff

All to no avail :(

When I return to Australia the Amaysim works fine but never connects when I go back to Thailand.

International roaming in Thailand works fine on my spare (Vodafone) SIM, but it’s my Amaysim SIM that I need to work in Thailand.

Amaysim “support” people have given up and can offer no solution.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks, but it’s both 3 and 4 G

Amaysim advertise that they have an affiliate provider in Thailand, however I’m guessing they currently do NOT have a Thai affiliate and therefore are falsely advertising.

Would love to hear back from anyone currently in Thailand with an Amazysim SIM card.

Is it a prepaid sim? lots of networks need a certain prepaid balance before they allow roaming. In theory you could run up a huge roaming bill and Amaysim is stuck with the charges until you top up.

Amaysim should be able to tell you which providers are their partners in Thailand.

Amaysim's website doesn't offer a lot of help, although they do reference the Amaysim app.

From https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/mobile-plans/international/roaming

"We recommend Grabbing a local SIM to get the best bang for your buck whilst abroad."

My best guess is that they do not have a local partner, or your phone doesn't support the local partner's network spectrum, or you don't have coverage or your account hasn't been enabled/approved for IR, or the out-of-band system used for approval is broken. It can sometimes take me 10-15 minutes to get a local Thai signal on an IR SIM.

Thanks, Yes it’s a prepaid sim as is my Vodafone sim and my Vodafone sim works fine - as prev mentioned. Both cards have plenty of credit. However it costs nothing to receive an incoming sms from overseas.

Amaysim support tell me they that they have a Thai partner. Like I mentioned above I don’t believe this and hope someone else in Thailand with an amaysim sim will confirm this so that I can pursue amaysim for false advertising.

I have an iPhone and an android, my AU Vodafone prepaid sim connects automatically with a Thai partner the moment I enter Thailand.

The amaysim sim fails to connect after for the duration of my 3 month stays in Thailand

I guess this provider doesn't support international roaming here.

That’s my guess as well, as already mentioned. Hopefully someone else (in Thailand now with an amaysim sim)can confirm so I can go amaysim for false advertising.

And, who do they say is their Thai partner?

Amaysim is an MVNO for Optus. It is not unusual for an MVNO to have challenges signing up IR partners.

Have you satisfied the AmaySIM pre-paid IR requirements, detailed somewhat vaguely on their page?

Maybe check Amaysim/OZ-centric tech/mobile/travel sorts of forums, where you may be more likely to get some feedback on first-hand experiences?

Thanks, I’ve tried other forums, heaps of advice but no Thai first-hand experiencers and no solutions.

I have a mate with an amaysim sim coming over to Thailand early next year. Guess I’ll have to wait until then.

I read that thread on whirlpool. Unfortunately the guy’s “obvious solution” (at the end of the thread) to set up non-sms website passwords does NOT solve the sim problem.

Yes, amaysim did offer possible Thai partner names but those providers could not be detected, nor connected to either automatically or manually with either of my 2 handsets. It was some months back & I can’t remember said providers names.
