BANGKOK — The first batch of Chinese personnel has won licenses to build Thailand’s high-speed railway, the Council of Engineers announced Monday.

Although the law requires engineers to be Thai nationals holding valid council licenses, the junta chief used his absolute authority to exempt the Chinese workers in June. It enabled 400 engineers from China to take part in the construction of the 253 kilometer span between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima province if they attended a training course and passed a special exam prepared specifically for them.

Probably only took each guy 10 minutes to complete the test.....

But 400 engineers (the Chinese portion, and how many Thai engineers?) for 250kms of rail track?

Exceptance with someones absolute authority ! that should prop up the funds a bit and if it fails or the budget blows out oh thats right the laws have changed noones responsible anymore ! Blame the Chinese engineers !!!!

High-speed certification of engineers, for a medium-speed railway-line !

I wonder how long it would take Thai engineers, to gain similar certification, so they could go to work & earn good money as expats in China ?  :whistling:

The exam was written in Chinese. As none if the Thai staff could read Chinese the engineers swapped papers and marked each others.

The first batch of 77 Chinese engineers who are to work in Thailand on the Thai-Chinese high-speed train project have passed the theoretical tests jointly organized by the Council of Thai Engineers and the Council of Thai Architects in Tien Jin during September 22-25.

Council chairman Mr Kamol Takkabutr said Monday that, under an order of the National Council for Peace and Order, the Transport Ministry, in coordination with the Council of Thai Engineers and Council of Thai Architects, would have to test the Chinese engineers who are to work on the train project to determine their engineering qualifications, their knowledge of Thai geography and the Big Flood in 2011.

There two sets of written tests: The first set has 50 quizzes regarding Thai laws on engineering profession and code of ethics and the second set has 100 quizzes. In order to be qualified to work here, Chinese engineers have to be able to answer correctly 60 percent of the quizzes.

First batch of Chinese engineers qualified to work on high-speed rail in Thailand

BANGKOK, 10 October 2017 (NNT) – The first 77 engineers in China have passed the Thai Council of Engineers’ training and assessment prior to their involvement in the high-speed railway project in Thailand.

President of the Council of Engineers Kamol Takabut stated that a total of 400 Chinese engineers are being given training for the construction of high-speed rail system on the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima route. They have been divided into four groups, all being trained in Tianjin, China.

Mr Kamol said so far all 77 engineers in the first group have completed the training and passed their examinations. They will be granted certificates by the Council of Engineers before being legally employed for the high-speed rail project in Thailand.

The training reportedly focuses on important information related to Thailand which the Chinese engineers need to be aware of prior to their duties in the Kingdom. Among the topics covered are Thai laws, geology and common natural disasters, which are considered crucial elements in the design and construction processes.

I'd love to read some of the 'quizzes' about the code of Thai ethics.

If the pass-mark was 60%, did anyone fail?

Nobody fails any tests in Thailand particularly to join the police force.

I'm guessing  the well educated Chinese engineers meeting the Thai versions will be like computer trying to communicate to a banana !

It would seem that they are already compatible..............image.jpeg.f638e3370e82d1577f3f677dcdd443a1.jpeg

It's considered a wonder that the Chinese engineers passed the Thai railway test as they had 90 minutes to complete. I noticed that all of the Chinese had finished in 90 minutes...

I would understand the general for wanting Chinese engineers, ( Big part of the deal, and a plus if the tracks fall apart) but top engineers would not need to be asked if they know that parts of Bangkok flood every year and that the massage parlors in Bangkok are causing Bangkok to sink, a  100% knowledge of soil types and concrete construction would be a must. I would love to see the exam in English.
