Why you might want to avoid hill Route 1249 today....

Thai Rath published a picture of a Chiang Mai hill road that had slipped in a landslide at the weekend.

Route 1249 up to Ang Khang was impassable and soldiers and highways staff were on the scene erecting signs and trying to stop the flow of water into large fissures in the road.

The heavy rains have been blamed.

Motorists and tourists can still get up the hill going via Fang and route 1178, said the highways department.

Experts will be examining the damage either today or tomorrow.

The construction there has been pretty damn good for many years.

If you have been there on that road you probably wouldn't say that.

The terrain there is incredibly rugged & steep & the road itself is quite amazing, built the way it is on the side of a mountain.
