Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today ( Oct 17) tested the use of the electronic ticket on a new city bus which the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is introducing for use in its new buses this month.

BMTA plans to introduce the electronic ticketing system or E-ticket on all its 2,600 new buses which is still under procurement process. But in the initial stage, the ticketing system will be installed in 800 new buses first.

The new buses will also be installed with global positioning system or known as GPS, and CCTV cameras.

Those old red buses are only ridable in the late evening or early morning, as they stay mobile.  Doubtful the foppish dandies would be caught dead on them during the day.  Notice the good general is exiting the non air conditioned bus.

Traffic is so bad during the day that knowing your bus is not moving via GPS is just telling you what you already know.

The question? What does the PM do every day to lift the performance of the country and lift it from its "THIRD WORLD MINDSET" . Photo shoot with new face cream! Test new bus tickets! the list goes on.

Suggest he needs to spend time with a real country leader who WORKS at improving the lifestyle of his people and improving the performance of his country.

Those E-tickets must be real magic.

A completely empty bus #178 diverts from its normal route all the way over to government house just to pick up just one…simple…senior citizen.

The future is indeed bright.

End of the line for the conductors then?

While not specifically stated in connection with implementation with the e-ticket system, BMTA in August 2017 intended to seek a Bt2 billion budget for the early retirement of about 2,000 fare collectors.  If the budget is approved, each fare collector participating in the early retirement program will receive an average Bt1 million.
