I've got a Thai friend that has just moved into a new room....

The room comes with free cable tv and has a 2 meter cable plugged into the wall, which you'd usually plug into your TV.

Unfortumately, she hasn't got a TV, only a lap top (about 5 years old but works ok) and cannot afford the internet...

My question - is there some way of making the cable TV work on the laptop ? ...

TIA ...

...though it would be nice to know what signals are on the cable to get the right USB Tuner type:

  • Analog MATV/CATV old school channel
  • Digital OTA Terrestrial (DVB-T2) digital streams
  • Digital Cable TV (DVB-C2) as used by Cable Boxes with some channels encrypted and subscription only
  • Digital Satellite (DVB-S2) highly unlikely it's this but possible

But, yea, as KittenKong wrote, you can get a USB TV adapter off Lazada for not too much baht if you know what's being sent over the cable.

Personally, I'd pony the money for a 4G Pocket WiFi Adapter and use the computer to watch stuff available off the Internet.
