Retired teacher out cycling killed by truck in Pathum Thani

By The Nation

A retired teacher out for his morning bicycle ride was struck and killed by a truck in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district on Tuesday morning.

Police said Sawang Sitthithanakul, 75, died at the scene at 8.30am alongside Klong L-1-2 in Moo 8, Tambon Klong Nueng.

Truck driver Sathaporn Noomthongkham, 27, said he saw no one in his path but felt a bump as his lorry struck something. He pulled over and found the cyclist dead.

A neighbour of Sawang told police it was the former teacher’s habit to cycle to a nearby market each morning to buy his breakfast.

Sorry, but that hardly is an excuse. 20 years for not looking where he was going

Strange. Why report this accident out of the dozens of road fatalities that occur each day? Totally random and non-sensical.

Yes, can only assume these are reported to remind us all how dangerous Thailand's roads are. Perhaps we'd forget if they didn't report any of these random stories.

Why is it nonsensical?

Which news reports are not "random", do you think that they are all planned out in advance?
