Sweden yesterday held a ceremony to honour HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who received the Knight of the Swedish Royal Order of the Seraphim on April 5, 1950. The order is the foremost honour in Sweden.

The ceremony, traditionally held when a Knight of the Order dies, was held in Stockholm the same date as the Royal Cremation ceremony in Thailand.

The event saw a parade by Royal Honour Guard troops, who took King Bhumibol’s Coat of Arms from Stockholm Palace to Riddarholmen Church at 11.55am local time.

A special ceremony, called Serafimerringningen, was conducted from noon to 1pm during which the church bells rang constantly. After the ceremony, the late King’s Coat of Arms was moved to the church.

Meanwhile hundreds of Thais living in the United Kingdom lined up at Buddhapadipa Temple in London to lay funeral flowers for the late Thai King.

The line of the black-clad mourners, which also included foreigners, went far beyond the gate of the temple. The event was held on the same day as the Royal Cremation ceremony for the late King was held in Bangkok.
