Just days before his promotion, Dudek had publicly stated that he was placed on administrative leave for cooperating with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency and was actively searching for a new job. His sudden elevation came after Michelle King, a longtime SSA official, resigned following disputes with DOGE representatives over access to sensitive Social Security records. King's departure is part of a broader trend of career government officials stepping down due to concerns about DOGE's influence within federal agencies. Prior to his promotion, Dudek had been under investigation for allegedly sharing unauthorized access to SSA information with DOGE representatives, according to The Washington Post.
