Truck driver killed in crash after avoiding dropped road debris

By The Nation

A lorry driver was killed when he crashed into a power pole on a road in Samut Sakhon on Thursday morning, apparently after he swerved to avoid a wreck buoy that had been dropped from a six-wheeled truck.

Police said the accident happened at 5.30am on the inbound Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon's Muang district.

The lorry driver Suchart Prachupsuk, 63, was killed behind the wheel.

Police found a giant emergency wreck buoy in the middle of the road near the crash scene and a six-wheeled truck with another buoy in its trailer parked nearby.

The other truck driver, Somsak Poldongnok, 30, told police that he had been transporting two buoys from Phuket to Sattahib when his vehicle hit a hole in the middle of the road, causing the restraints on one of the buoys to fail.

This was not a small buoy but at least 2 meters in diameter judging from the Thai TV news video. The restraints failed?

Something new... an incompetent truck driver... oh... sorry, just more of the same.
