VPN, Sinet and a Samsung smart TV

Featured Replies

My problem? I have a new Samsung smart TV and I want it to connect to the internet using a VPN.

There is no way to put VPN settings into the TV but the Sinet router (dlink DIR 605L) does have the ability to set the connection to go through a VPN. But when I put in the username/password etc I get no internet connection on anything.

Anyone managed to make VPN on a Samsung TV work?

Try changing the protocols the VPN uses to connect in the router settings.
From auto to one of the others. Eg
PPTP
L2TP
SSTP
UDP
Etc.

Test each one.

Nick - did that, used pptp since my vpn provided said that was the correct one, put in the server, username, password and re-booted. Nothing would connect to the internet not even my computer. Powered the modem on and off but still no internet.

I could try one of the free vpn servers, they might work.

It's hard to say.
It's possible the server address has to start with pptp.yourvpn not the usual www. Or Https

Does your VPN provides tutorials? The one for manual settings for PPTP on Linux or android might be suitable as your router will use a Linux operating system.

Other options are to use somthing inbetween like a raspberry pi. But the learning curve and hassle increases.

I have Sinet and Samsung, so if you ever find the correct settings, I would be greatful if you could send me a message.
Thanks
