Teenage girl among yaba suspects arrested in Northeast

By The Nation

Police and soldiers arrested three two men and a teenage girl in Ubon Rtachathani on Monday night after seizing 130,000 yaba (amphetamine) pills worth Bt39 million on the street. Pol Colonel Sompan Muthaporn, head of the Provincial Police Region 3 intelligence-gathering team, announced the bust on Tuesday.

Police and Army personnel of the Suranari Force arrested Sarawuth Nuansri, 26, Pradappan Kaewta, 33, and the 16-year-old whose name was withheld as a minor. They were allegedly riding through Khemarat district in a Honda Civic with a licence plate matching that provided by an informant who had earlier tipped off police investigators about a pending drug delivery.

Pursuing police saw a sack tossed from the car. They believed it to be the same one earlier picked up at a remote roadside location.

When the car was pulled over, Sompan said, the suspects were taken back to the discarded sack, which was found to contain illicit drugs.

The police colonel said Sarawuth confessed to having been hired via phone by a Lao person to pick up the shipment and take it to Amnat Charoen. He was later to be paid Bt150,000.

The three suspects have been charged with possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell.
