First, your chances of finding a good one during the construction season that is willing to work for day rate are slim if not nonexistent.  If you do find a good one, he/she will most likely quote a rate per square meter and which can vary depending on location.  If you're in a hurry, you might just get the local handy-man at 500 baht/day and hope for the best.

They work off a sq metre rate.

If you are lucky as I was you can get a Burmese team for 170bt m2 but standard is likley to be 250bt and possibly more the further south you go.

I'm in North East Thailand and just finished tiling around the pool area, with drains etc. B150 m2 the lot. Around 200m2.
He did want more.
Make sure everyone is agreed on the price before you start, not wishy washy.
At the end my guy charged me for 217 m2 and I checked a few times at 188 m2. So I paid for 188 m2. Seems tilers work out the price per metre different than falangs. Also the extras, like drain covers etc. My guy added that extra at the end, sorry no can do.

This would be right

Had 40 m2 done about 2yr ago, most of it Mosaic glass tiles with Epoxy grouting 9000 bht

After doing the calculations it worked out each of them ( 3 ) was getting 700 bht a day & one of them was the Labourer

I'd say this is par for the course.
If you pay by day, they go slow, if you pay for a 5 day quoted job, they do it in 3 days.
You just have to calculate, example: 3 people @ B400/ day for 10 days (estimate how long your job will take) = B 4000. If you come close, good luck.

Yes, have to be careful. You need to tap tap tap with your mallet when they finish. I'm not saying they won't do a good job, but check. Watch out for extras.

We contracted out our house floor to be tiled, then both had to go away. Our extras were about half the house had to be re-laid.

Sorry missed the OP name. You know what you're doing. Sorry for the wasted post.

rayong area paid 130 baht a metre, 120 metres around the house, top quality work, all falls perfect no puddles, and i'm a tiler in the UK on £25/30 a metre, so about 10% of a UK price.
