About 600 graduate students will sue Bangkokthonburi University over uncertified programmes that cost about Bt300,000 and failed to provide officially recognised degrees.

“We plan to pursue both criminal and civil proceedings against the university,” Nirot Nimwiwat, a former student at the university’s Educational Management School, said on Wednesday.

He was speaking after a one-hour negotiation period with a representative from the university did not provide yield a “satisfactory conclusion”.

Nirot said he would represent about 600 graduate students demanding justice after they suffered damages allegedly because of the university’s decision to offer programmes that had not been officially certified.

Graduates from the programmes ended up being unable to seek relevant licences for their chosen professions.

Nirot has asked the Lawyers Council of Thailand to help with the case.

The council yesterday hosted the negotiations session between Nirot and Asst Professor Wittaya Benjathikun, a member of the Bangkokthonburi University Council.

Wittaya said the university would be willing to give Bt70,000 in compensation to every affected student.

“Moreover, we will provide further training for them for free until they can get the licences for their professions,” he said. He added that the university’s programmes had seen more than 1,000 students enrolled and some had already agreed to the remedial actions.

Nirot said his group did not want to receive further training from the university.

“We have lost trust in it,” he said.

Another private "university"....term loosely used here!

Offering degree courses, but at the end..sorry...no degree.(not that it would be worth anything)....but people are scammed again!

There are many of these scam rotten education facilities in Thailand that should be closed.....
