I am a US citizen...68 years old and living in Thailand with my thai wife 47 years old..She has a large family here..2 daughters, mom, brothers and sisters all living in Thailand and has been fully employed in Pattaya as an accountant for the last 6 years..I want to take her for a holiday to visit my 75 year old cousin in New Jersey who we will be staying withfor about 30 days...How difficult will it be to obtain a tourist visa and what additional information will I need to satisfy the US Embassy in Bkk.. Di I need a financial support letter from my cousin or just a letter of invitation?? What other financial documents do I need and what amount of money must I have to satisfy them..?? Also, the Dsc-160 form says you need a USCIS petition receipt#?? How do I obtain this?? and it also asks about vaccinations??? What does she need to fulfill this request?? Does she need health insurance??

Thanks in advance for any tips you can offer me.. From this forum, I have concluded that Thai firms that offer you help for completing this process are both overpriced and inadequate, and I am willing to try to help myself first...I'll need some good luck, of course//

                                                                       Sincerely

                                                                       Barry. L.

Hey Barry,

1)You need to fill out an application online (DS160) . Fill it out completely and honestly

2)Next you need to pay the fee the way they want (They spell it out on how to do it online)

3) then Make an appointment at the embassy for your wife to have an interview (again it is online)

4) Go to the interview (you CAN'T go with her ....just her alone)

when she goes in for her interview she'll maybe need supporting documents (pay stubs, pictures over the years with you, Marriage license and chanotes for property she may own)

Thats It

My wife went just a week ago and all went fine!

Thanks, so my wife thinks that I need a letter of financial support from my cousin or a invitation letter from her..She thinks that the letter has to be original and sent by post rather then online?? Is any of that true or has she got outdated or untrue details...Thanks again..

No truth in that.....Your her husband, you support her, unless your finances are thin? As for invitation letters ...Russian needs them for a US citizen! USA is not Russia.  If you're staying at your cousins then state it in the DS 160 form. The very first step is to go online in the Embassy site and fill out the DS 160 (It's a long form so you might want to save it periodically) but it covers most everything.

Another thing .....if your wifes passport is empty that may create a problem. the Embassy just wants to make sure she's going to return to Thailand. So you may want to travel to Singapore, Kula lumper etc. so it shows that she travels abroad and always returns back to Thailand!

That's very helpful.. I started filling out the form, and , yes it is so long.. My finances are somewhat small, about 400,000bht in bank account and have my condo chinote that I own my room here in Pattaya..I don't know if that's enough to satisfy their requirements. What do you think?? sorry to bother you again. Will they specify what documents she needs to bring for the interview?? I think I'll be able to handle the rest..

if you're actually married and you can show that you're on a retirement extension or marriage extension (how many years have you lived here and how many years have you been married) should be no problem, also she has two daughters here (shows she'll return).

Unfortunately they do not specify the documents that she may need to bring.....they kinda do in a general way ....Anything that will prove she will return to Thailand is what they want.

Yes, we are legally married for over 2 years and had a thai ceremony last April..We have been living together for over 4 years and I am here now with a marriage extension already..Yes, she has two grown daughters, one in University in Korat and the other lives here in Pattaya. She also has a grandson 2 months old.Her mom also lives in Korat, so she is definitely coming back, so I shouldn't have too much trouble if my finances are enough to satisfy my financial obligations..hope so..thank you so much!!

Hi Barry, along with any other supporting documents your wife takes she should have your passport with current and past extension flagged and it should be the first thing she hands the IO.

The key is making sure the DS160 is filled out properly and as bp said in post #2 "completely and honestly". Check your work several times, then check it again.

Based on what you have said, I don't think she'll have any problems.

Good luck and keep us informed.
