The Chinese Academy of Sciences Innovation Cooperation Centre in Bangkok, Thailand’s first such facility promoting the exchange of scientific and technological information around Southeast Asia, has signed collaborative pacts with several organisations.

Science and Technology Minister Suvit Maesincee presided at the opening this week in the Makkawan Rangsan Room of the Thai Army Club.

On hand were Chinese Ambassador Lyu Jian, CAS vice dean Zhang Jie, and ACM Charlie Chandruang, chairman of the National Legislative Assembly’s committee on science and tech.

Suvit said the collaboration would be helpful in encouraging the private sector to study, exchange and develop knowledge and expertise with China.

He said his ministry was committed to strong cooperation to ensure that advanced knowledge is used to improve people’s wellbeing and help the country implement the “Thailand 4.0” strategy.

Zhang noted Thailand’s “significant role” in Southeast Asia as an innovation hub, the reason the CAS selected Thailand as the first overseas location for such a centre.

He said the CSA had signed agreements with many Thai research institutes, universities and foundations to strengthen cooperation.

He said the centre would promote 2018 as the Year of Innovation between China and Asean.

With other words: China will export its knowledge and developments to Thailand. It will never ever be the other way around.

For example: My company develops e-commerce applications. Thai copy it and sell it as their development. They even  pressed charges that we have copied their software. In court, we showed the judge that it was our own developed software that was copied as we always place several little mistakes (and some own developed characters) on purpose that won't interfere the software / application. They were just trying to squeeze millions out of my company with filing a lawsuit against us.

Ha! Classic. Well done.

This is a superficial agreement. I mean, do they really expect us to believe this is an exchange of innovations? Innovative Thailand? Ha! The Chinese may not even be interested in Thai activities; might be the activities of another group of nations with ties to Thailand.

If you look at history, in 1403 Thailand army occupied Kelantan, Trengganu and Kedah these are all northern states of present day Malaysia(at that time Malaya). They threatened to go south and occupy Pahang the central state of Malaya. The Sultan of Malacca (southern state) requested the help of China to stop the Thai attacking more states. China sent an envoy to Thailand to warn them to stop and the Thai had to obey because China was powerful at that time. China was the big brother of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, until today it is still the big brother. All historians know this fact.

Exchange of knowledge and scientific development is giving China an opportunity to show the Thais that China value their friendship even if they don't benefit from this exchange of knowledge. It's the big brother thing.

Those northern states of Malaya occupied by the Thais in 1403 were all returned to Malaya in 1909 with the help of the British colonial government under a treaty signed by Thailand and Malaya.

Good to know the history. British used their swards at the last resort with anyone. Some of them pacts with China on behalf of Greater British Raj, was amazingly good and still working. Only place British could not brought under their rule was Tibet/Nepal. If they have done that, China would be boxed into smaller state, and would not threat the neighbors around them. The final mistake they did is divided Greater British Raj into two countries one India and another one Pakistan. In the future if Briton is divided it could because of Pakistani decedent immigrants. History repeats.
