My Macbook Pro Retina, developed a huge battery swell, keyboard got twisted and so did the bottom casing. I addition to that the screen coating had started to deteriorate. Apple's policy relevant to these two issues was the following:

1) Charge USD 199 for the battery replacement and fix without charge the collateral damage.

2) Replace, free of charge, the screens that had the defective coating.

I was very pessimistic when I went to Studio 7, as "This Is Thaïland"...

But from the start I got favourably impressed as they agreed to take care of my computer, send it to Bangkok for quotation. Extremely friendly and positive attitude all round. The charge for their service was 1000 Bahts, in addition to Apple's 7400 for the battery.

Apple confirmed a few days later and I transferred the 7400.

It is somewhat unfortunate that the repair took 10 weeks instead of the 3 that were foreseen originally. The reason being that the batteries are glued as one unit to the keyboard; mine being Swiss French, the unit had to come from abroad, and customs took over a month to clear the shipment. So I was told. As far as I was concerned the root cause of the issue is Apple's lousy engineering of new MBPs, which lead to unmaintainable units for the sake of unduly thin bodies. But that's a different story.

Anyhow, for the price of an (expensive) battery replacement I got my laptop back, with a new battery, new keyboard, new trackpad, new bottom casing and what looks like a new screen.

Don't hesitate to go to the Studio 7 guys in Buriram, it is all smiles and efficiency. They are also ideally located in the Robinson shopping mall.

Think twice before some Apple's gear, especially if you like to do thing yourself.

There is an I-Care at The Mall Korat, 3rd. floor that

does repairs.

Actually Studio 7 suggested I could go to Korat, for a faster service,  but I chose to pay their 1000 baht fee which is a fraction of the cost of two return trips to Korat.
