A 65 year old woman was kicked off her motorcycle in the darkness of Udon yesterday and stabbed multiple times.

Two men made off with Prayoon Thongmo's bag containing money.

She was involved in making loans to traders and villagers in the Nong Khwan Kwang area of the north eastern Thai city.

Prayoon had been taken to hospital by relatives by the time Non Soong police arrived.

She had been stabbed in the neck, abdomen and arm - she died later from her injuries.

Police found a one baht gold necklace on the ground by her Yamaha Fino motorcycle. There was a lot of blood in Soi Na Sai 5. Some bags of food were still hanging on the handlebars.

CCTV footage showed her being kicked off the bike as two men drew alongside her. Then the pillion passenger grabbed her bag and ripped the necklace from around her neck before she was stabbed repeatedly.

Police said the attackers were likely known to her and so she was murdered to silence her. They could also have been customers of her loan business, they said. They likely knew her movements and would have understood that she had a lot of money in her bag.

The victims retired policeman husband Saman Thongmo said she would always go out in the evening to collect interest payments from her clients and get dinner.
