Police who arrested a man on Koh Samui pretending to be deaf and desperate after the death of his wife in a fire was just a Chinese con artist making 1,500 baht a day.

But the cops believe he is part of a much larger gang of criminals preying on the kindhearted.

Arrested following complaints to the provincial police was 38 year old Sin. He was nabbed in a noodle shop in Chaweng trying to con people out of money.

He had a sign round his neck that stated he had lost his wife in a fire and his son was gravely ill. He had no money and was pleading for help. He said he was deaf.

His passport showed that he had entered Thailand on December 3rd and was due to stay until January 31st. He said that a person from Hat Yai had written the sign for him (the word for serious was misspelled in Thai).

He admitted that the whole sob story was a pack of lies and that he was making 1,500 baht a day.

Police charged him with causing annoyance in public and sent him to Bo Phut police station taking the sign, 1,610 baht and a bag into evidence.

The cops said they believed he was not acting alone and was part of a Chinese gang preying on Thai and foreign tourists in the south of the country.

1500 baht a day...he can make that teaching English...ha ha

...wishful thinking at some universities... 5555

1500 thb/day? that's what a floozy makes in 45 min, not even deaf mute but crying for joy

Well that 1,610 will be put to good use in the RTP charity fund. The con man was busted by those even stronger and better at the game.

A hard way to make an easy living as far as I am concerned. Not

many ex-pats living on 1,500 baht a day. 30 days a month work

to get by.
