A Russian man and his daughter were severely injured when they fell from the balcony of their room on the second floor of a Pattaya condominium late Wednesday night.

Police were informed of the incident at The Gallery Hotel-Condominium on Soi Jomthien 8 in Tambon Nongplue in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district at 12.30am.

The two were identified as Maksim Kretov, 42 and Valeriya Kretov, 16.

The teenager suffered a head injury while her father broke his left leg.

Both were transferred to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

Nattaporn Chomngarm, a security officer of the condominium, told police that he had seen the family chatting on the balcony of their second-storey room before he heard screaming and saw the two falling to the ground.

Police said they believed the two had been sitting on the balcony edge and accidentally fallen over.

Yeah, that´s a perfect explaination. The problem, though, is that the chance that 2 persons falling from the same balcony at the same time is 10 times smaller then winning the government lottery twice in a month.

Prime suspect is a Comrade Smirnoff.

I will disagree.

I would suspect this too low installed balcony railing, but what I know..... nothing only guesswork....

Let those TV detectives start with their work.

Much easier, luckily they have survived so let asked them.

I disagree. It could easily be this: Two people chatting, sitting on the balcony edge. One lost balance and starts falling. The other one tries to catch him up, and also lost balance doing so. The two felt.

Waiting for the go fund me page that cant be set up from thailand.. if they had travel insurance im sure there is some clause that a fall from 2cm or more is not covered

Maybe both father and daughter were drunk? The Russians celebrate Christmas in January so they were in party mode.

Your posting is the biggest load of speculative  **** (drivel - polite) I've read for some time. (And you certainly have some competition on T. V. Com.

Quite probably one tried to to grab or assist the other. Perhaps speculative also. But I think very feasible.

And yes. Per a previous posting. The balconies are too low. I am 180 cms and my apartment balcony is 10 cms lower than my navel.

Unless one started to fall and the other tried to grab them. Use your imagination.

Is the 2nd floor what we call 1st floor

In Thailand 1st floor is the ground level, like the US. Australia, UK etc its called ground floor then one up is 1st floor.

In the context of this story, they fell around 2.5-3.5 metres.

Yeah, and I am 1,86 and I´ve never had any problem with Thai balcony rails. Isn´t that a peculiar thing?
Maybe it is because I look where I am and how things are there.

I am also very happy that I could contribute with something that was so eye opening for you. Please follow me and my comments. There is always more coming.

One started tipping backwards and grabbed the other one, like a drowning man drowning his rescuer.

Well  had they both been casually sitting on the railing, or fence and one of them lost balance and started to roll back, they would make a grab at something instinctively.  The Russians do bravado....

Fortunate not to have been a higher floor.

not sure of the cause of their fall but I am in a hotel that a chap fell to his death  a few months back  and I notice that all the balcony railings have been built up by a few feet. so with all the accidents it appears they think the regular height is not enough.

lets hope for a speedy recovery for these two .

The balcony railing at the building is not low. Especially for a child and for an adult, the railing would be well above the waistline.

Hence, post #22 is the most accurate of this thread. A simple Google search would mute the 'balcony too low' TV team of sleuth savants.

Did the police also say no suspicious circumstances and the room was not robbed I wonder. Na forget that as they always say it.

Disappointed? But maybe it's because they knew even the most obtuse CSI: TVF investigator would realize that the father would have related the "suspicious circumstance" had there been any, so they didn't wish to insult anyone's intelligence. Perhaps an overestimation, though.

Yes. Point taken. Obviously neither of us leans too far forward. Or even worse sits on the balcony wall/rails.

I will follow you with great interest. I can't wait for your next speculative assessment of a situation.

Strangely enough. Similar to your name "keep it real" is one of my stock phrases I say to 'newbies' arriving in Thailand.

The other is "After use. Pay. And put them back where you found them."

I, believe it or not, actually live by the same phrases. Maybe that´s because I am not a newbie, and have been residing in the country over 17 years.
However, i am happy that I can amuse people. That´s why I joined this forum, and I don´t take it serious one bit. Cheers, and thanks for following!

Good thng they were on the 2nd floor and not much higher or this would be

a different story. Low balconies are great for sitting against with a chair, they

both better be thankful that they are stll alive.
