Immigration yesterday announced the arrest of a husband and wife wanted on a warrant for ripping off people hopeful of getting work in Japan and South Korea.

The cops said they took between 15,000 and 123,000 baht from each person but then left them stranded at Suvarnabhumi with no money and nowhere to go.

The pair - Sukanya Saiwong, 31, and husband Poramet Bundong, 37 - denied everything despite the warrant from Phitsanuloke naming them in the conspiracy.

They claimed that it was all down to a 'middleman' - a female by the name of "Phimpha"; they said they had given her all the money.

Police discovered that Poramet was also wanted on a warrant issued in Uthai Thani for embezzlement and swindling.

INN said that the arrests came as the Thai authorities step up efforts to help people being swindled in work abroad scams.
