rooster59 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 PM suggests Thais to start saving for their future Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called on Thai people to spend wisely and to start saving so that they will have enough savings to make a living after retirement. In his weekly address to the Thai people on Friday (Jan 5), the prime minister said he would like the Thai people to have discipline in spending and to start long-term saving with a purpose, adding that saving is important and this should be instilled in the minds of our youngsters. However, he said that many people would question how could they start saving because their income was not enough to meet their spending. oldcarguy Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 ummmm save that 15 baht a day you are raising minimum wages ....... We know he is saving for the future since he wants to open a Vintage watch shop :)
PatOngo Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Makes you laugh at the mentality of the "leaders" when the majority of the population don't have two coins to rub together.
Oziex1 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 As usual the elites coming up with ideas that will not succeed without the basic systems in place to cultivate these concepts. Try some sound economic management designed to create jobs, improve the level of education, deal with corruption etc etc.
Jeremy50 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 'Their future', meaning what? This afternoon? Tomorrow morning?

KhunMhee Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 SO the entire thinking of today matters because we are here today and can't see the future are done? I would agree with saving for retirement but as most need to spend all they make to survive it's a hard sell. That massive 15 baht a day won't go far but lets be honest it's a start.
worgeordie Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 With so many families living hand to mouth, lots up to their eyes in debt, there are no way they can save. regards worgeordie
Orton Rd Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 straight out of the let them eat cake mentality, amusing Thailand. How on earth do people on a minimum wage of 9k a month, and there are millions of them, and in debt already, save enough for their pensions? Quite insulting and ignorant to suggest they can.
berybert Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 When the number 2 in Thailand can afford multi million baht watches on his not great wages, then you really should listen to the PM. These guys know how to invest.
edwinchester Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Fantastic to see that he practises what he preaches. He must be very frugal as an army officer to have saved nearly 130 million bht and transferred over 460 million bht to other family members in his asset declaration.
coulson Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Save what? Is he suggesting defaulting on their debt to keep some in the piggy bank? The majority of those who owe money have no idea how much they throw away in interest and along comes this pearl of wisdom.
shady86 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Department stores will be empty every end of month if people here starts to save.

Coconutman Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Its easy to say when you make enough money to save and the system isnt rigged against you.
Bluespunk Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 “While admitting that there is no successful formula for saving, he said there were two ways of saving. “Spend 70 baht and save 30 baht from an earning of 100 baht and if we spend less than 70 baht, then we can save more,” he added.” Such profound wisdom...
Bluespunk Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 “The prime minister also suggested Thai people to attach importance to good content when they want to see a movie, listen to music or surf the internet and to refrain from sharing messages which have bad content.” In the years to come, when people sit back and discuss random passages inserted into the middle of a monologue, passages that have no link to anything before or after it, passages that make you go “what the ****?”, passages which have the effect of sticking an iron bar into the bearings of a machine operating at full pace, this will rank as one of the all time greats.
Bluespunk Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) “For those who complain they don’t earn enough to spare for saving, the prime minister said he would give them moral support and to rethink about the merits of saving.” Stop moaning you babies and stop ******* spending your money, sort of thing? “To fill water into a leaked water jar. Water is income and the leak water is expense. If we want to live a better life in the future, we must put more water into the jar than the water which leaks out,” he said.” Erm, wouldn’t it make more sense to fix the leaking jar? madmitch Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Quote from Somchai Micawber: Annual income 400,000 baht, annual expenditure 399,000 baht, result happiness. Annual income 400,000 baht, annual expenditure 401,000 baht, result misery. Of course there's the version for Thai Government officials: Annual income 400,000, annual expenditure 399,000 baht, result happiness. Official annual income 400,000 baht, annual expenditure 5,000,000 baht, result even more happiness!
ramrod711 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called on Thai people to spend wisely and to start saving so that they will have enough savings to make a living after retirement. Perhaps he could help a little. The couple that live across the street have a house only because they share with her father and sister and the land was given to them by their grandfather. The wife has a clerical position at a local retailer, the husband works as a roofer, is not full time but steadily employed. They have 2 children ages 8 and 6. Recently my wife told me that the fees for the 6 year old are 17,000 baht which includes uniforms and lunches. The government could help reduce those costs or improve the quality of education, maybe both. These people are working, contributing, law abiding citizens who won't be able to buy a ticket on a high speed rail train. Maybe a little help for the people in the trenches is in order .
Topdoc Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 They will need to save a lot if they want a white willy
JAG Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Perhaps he can give some advice on "wise investments"?I understand cross border trade with war torn neighbours can be jolly rewarding...Sent from my KENNY using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

ChrisY1 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Another typically Hi-So advisory for the B300/day workers.....from a multi million baht advisor. So far off the planet face!
spidermike007 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 We can all take the lead with his example, of saving billions of baht annually, from his "earnings".

chinostar Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 This is the most evasive remark from a "prime minister". Instead of implementing a decent pension scheme for the elder and supporting the poor by raising the minimum wages and spend less on military useless toys, he comes with this cheap advice. No conscious whatsoever.
SpeakeasyThai Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Need an education system and ability to learn skills for employment that pays a decent wage before one can even go there and preach about saving. Oh, and whilst I'm here how about a democratic elected government in place then doing your daily evening God like rants? Edited January 6, 2018 by SpeakeasyThai
