The arrests were announced by Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal, deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, at a press conference in front of Tesco-Lotus shopping mall on Rama IV Road in Bangkok’s Klong Toei district. The motorcyclists and pillion riders were arrested after police at several checkpoints in Bangkok found that their motorcycles had been modified apparently for road racing, or they were riding in large groups. Surachet said police seized 71 motorcycles during the operation. Seven of the arrested also tested positive for drug use, Surachet added. He said police also arrested a suspect for using his Facebook page to organise road races. He was identified as Ritthikrai Komsant, 21. His Facebook page “Sua Sing Dunlo” has 1,500 followers. Surachet said police have so far closed 57 Facebook pages used for organising road races and have arrested 47 administrators of the pages. Classic Ray
I sense a business opportunity for a circuit where this can be carried out legally. Nothing fancy, just some tyres and straw bales and a truck selling Red Bull, sticking plasters and coffins.
RichardColeman
I wonder if these 'joy riders' would be so enthusiastic if the punishment was a year in the military on conviction ?

Plus places in Germany do it as well. Close off a quiet road at night and let the youth blast off some energy there than risk collisions elsewhere.
