Alleged dozing-off driver triggers 7-vehicle pileup in Samut Sakhon

By The Nation

A university student allegedly dozed off behind the wheel before hitting a pickup that crashed into three other pickups and two motorcycles as well as a road-side khaotom shop in Samut Sakhon early on Friday, police said.

Pol Captain Worawut Piamsomboon, deputy inspector of Krathumban police station, said the accident happened at 1.30am on the Setthakit 1 Road in Tambon Klong Madua of Samut Sakhon’s Krathumban district.

Three people were injured in the accident, including the student, identified as Pasunuda Mongkol, 21.

Worawut said police interrogated people involved in the accident and learned that Pasunuda’s Mazda 2 car hit a white Toyota pickup in front of her, sending the pickup out of control. The Toyota pickup then hit three other pickups and two motorcycles before hitting the khaotom shop.

The owners of the motorcycles and three other pickups were dining at the khaotom shop. While none of them were injured, the Toyota pickup driver and a passenger were injured.

The three injured were rushed to Krathuban Hospital.

Worawut said police will continue the investigation before placing charges.

I wonder what their comments will be about, brakes maby, Thai drivers in general. Falling asleep? Now that would be something new and different, compelling reading.

Ok i understand what you are saying Ex-pats pick on Thai drivers in general  But i will say this Having 7 vehicle accidents is pretty serious stuff Where i come from having 7 vehicle car crashes is very rare You do have them but wow not as common as here  Maybe you left this one out Keith No patience from Thai drivers  Saw this the other day and seeing is believing about Thai driver patience  2 lane road Outside and and inside lane Cars  had stopped at the busiest traffic lights in Ubon One car  on the outside broke down while waiting for lights to turn green On the outside lane they have the small lane where usually the motorbikes use  The guy did the right thing put his hazard lights on Got out of Pick-up and waved to the cars behind him he had broken down He stared to push the Pick-up across the lane what the bikes use Guy in car behind him got out to help this guy I was in inside lane and thought if you get out and help all the traffic behind us cant move The 2 guys were doing ok and they were moving the vehicle The Pick- was half way across the bike lane when the lights turned green  There were cars coming down this bike lane instead of waiting tried to get around this pick-up They nearly hit the pick-up Would of been another pile up  The Guy who was helping push the car got in front of the pick-up and put his hand up for those cars to stop I am sure if he did not do this those cars would of kept on coming and ran straight into the pick-up That is how much patience Thai drivers have and this is a cause of many accidents The me me me attitude
