PHUKET: The actions of an Omani tourist staying in Patong has led to police putting out a warning on how tourists should behave whist on holiday in Phuket’s main entertainment hub and other areas of the island.

Patong Police confirmed to The Phuket News yesterday (Jan 12) that an Omani tourist was charged with harassment after a hotel housekeeper reported him for harassing her at his hotel room on Jan 3.

Lt Col Theerasak Boongsaeng of the Patong Police said, “On January 3 we charged an Omani male, 55, with harassment after a 25-year-old woman reported to us that he had inappropriately tried to touch her while she was cleaning his hotel room,” said Lt Col Theerasak.

The man was made to pay the member of staff B30,000 in compensation and to apologise for his actions,” Lt Col Theerasak." - at 30,000 baht a pop, I expect to see a lot more of these reports in the future.

Just another extortion.

That is about 4 months salary for the housekeeper!  Cheaper to rent a 'lady boy' or a masseuse for the evening!

Na, the woman would have been charged for tempting the man to touch her just by being there. Maybe she would cop a little stone throwing as her penalty.

"after a 25-year-old woman reported to us that he had inappropriately tried to touch her" - now, you don't believe everything you read, but the article does say, "tried to touch her" which implies she was never actually touched.

For a 150 baht "lady drink" you can "touch" all you like, and I am quite sure this guy would know that, especially trying it on with a room cleaner, so, I'm suggesting, either she was sexually assaulted, and is taking the 30,000 baht blood money, or she was propositioned, and is crying foul, thus, extorting 30,000 baht out of the REAL victim.

Don't forget, you can punch someone in the face here, and it's a 500 baht fine.

Makes for a lucrative scam, doesn't it?

A bit like a scratched jet ski, or bullets found in suitcases at the airport, or a scratched or stolen rental motorbike etc etc.

I wonder if the police office who arrived at the scene was known to the room cleaner?
