Applogies for Title.. pressed the send button too soon :o

Have been to Patong a few times, will be coming back in March/April but would also like a few days somewhere else, a bit quieter but not dead, nice beach with reasonable rooms and bars/restaurants..

ive had a look on the net at Phukets other resorts but having not been there its hard to know what theyre really like.

can anyone give me a few ideas wheres well worth staying or avoiding i.e. kata, karon, surin, kamala, nai harn, rawai etc etc

naihan beach is worth to go... much cleaner than others, and tranquil...

for most of the year and then the "hoards" arrive and its like a smaller version of patong albeit without the jet ski's

Naiharn is a quiet area, if your looking for a mix of nice beaches, good resturants and a bit of nightlife i would personally suggest kata/karon

ive heard that at certain times of year the beaches of phuket are particularly hazardous for swimmers etc... what months does this apply?

Low Season the seas get a bit rough, so approximately June-November

NaiYang Beach is safe all year round. It has a reef that breaks any monsoon waves. (But you still need to be sensible when swimming in a storm!)

Tri Trang beach is nice during low season too, but only at high tide. 5 minutes from Patong

Kata Noi is one of the nicest beaches on the island IMO, although nearby Kata has more of a nightlife. Karon fairly nondescript and large but not bad nightlife, while NaiHarn is pretty dead and Rawai alright but ugly when tide retreats.
