Rooms under 10,000THB/month in BKK?

Hello,

I'm returning to Thailand and, after having lived in CM for a few years, have gotten used to CM's cost of living. I'm looking for an apartment/condo in Bangkok now for under 10,000THB a month but that seems to be the absolute bottom of the price range with the sites I've come across. Does anyone know of any websites advertising apartments at that range? Is it a pipe-dream to pay less than 10,000THB a month in BKK? Thanks in advance.

It just depends on what you expect from an apartment condo, and how long the contract shall be. You can get a basic apartment which is "ok" with aircon for 5000 a month, but i don't know if this is sufficent for you ;)

This site is quite good for apartments: http://www.renthub.in.th

I have lived in BKK at three different places for 13 years until late 2016 and never paid more than 10K for my 3-room Condos (not the newest ones of course, and not in lower Sukhumvit but rather in the suburbs, but still....)

the Condo estate along Bangna-Trat road where I lived from 2012-2016 has plenty of studio units of 37sqm renting out between 4.5 and 7 K, depending on condition and furniture. Plus you will pay electricity directly to the local electricity company

Along the skytrain route? Forget it unless you want to be among the 'burbs, even then it'll be a long walk or taxi-ride.

This is nonsense, unless your requirements are high end; there are tens of thousands of 'rooms' (which is the word the OP use), even in the CBDs (lower Suk, Siam, Silom etc) that rent with basic furniture for far less than 10k Baht pm.

10k is a pipe dream for something decent. A decent apartment reasonably near the popular areas of sukhumvit, satorn or silom will cost you 25-30k minimum unless you want something old and dilapidated or you're happy with a 1 room studio

I disagree with everyone. OP will find accommodation easily in that price range and a 2 minute walk from a bts, sharing a bunk bed with other back packers. [emoji3]
The alternative is a depressing abode out In no English speak burbs. [emoji26]

Not true. Quite new one bedroom (of course small rooms, so we are talking about 3x sqm) condos near public transports are available from 12000thb/month. Example: The base sukhumvit 77, about 5 mins walk from on nut bts

I wouldn't put an animal in a cage let alone a human

Why oh why do people subject themselves to this? Forced into a box is not healthy for the mind.

There are plenty of large modern studios for that money in Thailand, just obviously not in the capital

Sure, but as OP said, he now wants to stay in Bangkok ;)

When you buy something you always make a tradeoff between things that are important for you (size, location, whatever) and the price (unless you are so rich that you don't care about the prize and simply buy "the best" :p)

But every person has a different sense for the different things. For example myself, when i stay alone, a 3x sqm condo is ok, i don't feel like i'm in a cage, if that's not ok for you or another person, well then you probably you have to spend more money or lower your sight.

For example a completely different topic, but which i can absolutely not relate to: There are people (quite a lot of people) who like to go to a coffee shop and work there just using their laptop (maybe some crap like a Macbook air).

For me working like this would be simply impossible. How can one use just the Laptop display, much too small (i have a 34" ultra widescreen at home and at the office), just a touchpad (so slow compared to a mouse) and then the noise level in these places.

Buying a screen for 20-30k... a Laptop for 100k... i don't have to really think about spending this kind of money, for me this are just basic requirements in my life. If i would somehow break my current hardware or it would get stolen, i would just go to the next shop and buy a new one.

Thinking about if i should spend 15k or 20k for a room would require much more time.

Agreed. Some people will subject themselves to anything. I could never stay in a shoebox room.

liberty place on sukhumvit soi 22 is an old building with no amenities but reportedly well maintained (they have laundry service).  i was interested in the low price room (7,500thb/mo) but the manager told me that rate was for thais only.  a farang needed to pay 14,000thb/mo but that came with room cleaning services a couple times a week.  i made a similar comment on a thread last year and another forum member indicated they had checked with the manager (possibly a new one) and the low price rooms are available to farangs.  it is a pretty good location, easy walk to asoke bts or phrom phong bts (or moto taxi if needed).  i used to do a monthly rate at the president park further down the soi.  i thought soi 22 was a decent spot to stay.

interesting thread... Yes, i have seen a few places under the 10,000 range in Bangkok but I consider the majority of these as substandard and trash. some of these buildings in this price range need to be condemned and you probably have a high probability of getting sick from mold

What a laugh, all these sensitive souls likely to get sick from 'mold', can't bear to live in a 'shoe box', must have a rotisserie in the designer kitchen, couldn't possible live further than five metres from the BTS/MRT, etc etc.

What circumscribed and ignorant lives you must lead; as I stated definitively earlier in this thread, there are limitless possibilities in the OP's price range. I have seen them myself and they exist. Do not expect luxury, but with a little searching, do expect convenience, space, amenities and facilities - you only have to look.

I'm paying 7000 per month for City Home in Nonthaburi just outside, great for me with pool (cold and no sun lol), fitness centre and roof garden.
You know it would be a big service to others to take pics of your room and add ons.. After you clean up of course [emoji16]

Not looking for places under 10k, but found both of the above links provide excellent information looking for apartments in BKK at a number of price levels.
