Video: Carnage at Lampang clock tower as pick-up pensioner "goes all stiff"

CCTV footage from Lampang in the north of Thailand showed a pick-up being driven by a 63 year old man plow into a roundabout.

The wife of the driver said that her husband had "gone all stiff" after a seizure. His taut body had caused his foot to slam down on the accelerator, she said.

No one was killed but six vehicles were damaged and three people were taken to hospital.

In the Isuzu that caused the damage were driver Krairik Pongprasert and his wife Wilai, both 63.

They had been traveling down the Chatchai Road towards the five way intersection roundabout at the Lampang clock tower just after 3.20pm yesterday afternoon.

They were both taken to hospital though the wife was sufficiently alert to be able to explain the initial cause of the accident.

Also hurt with head trauma was Worachai Jaikaewdaeng,55, in a municipality pick-up.

Witnesses said that three other vehicles off camera were damaged as the pick up that caused the accident gained speed heading towards the clock tower.

Luckily no one was killed - this is an accident of medical origins and could have and does happen anywhere with similar or often worse consequences (Glasgow Bin Lorry Crash)..

Not much could have been done to avoid this unless the Driver had a known medical condition which should have prevented him from driving.

Talk about implants!!!

They'll do anything to avoid giving way to the right.

Dam, i thought i was going to get a few tips, as thais never take the blame its his wifes fault for making him *go stiff* lol

I am not sure how it works here but in Australia if a person presents themselves to a doctor and that doctor finds any condition that would impair that persons driving ability then that doctor must report that persons condition to the authorities and that persons license is cancelled until they present themselves to the authority and is sent to an independent medical examiner and it could be that the persons license is either cancelled or that special conditions are placed on their license

And if they don't go to a doctor they are free to continue driving with any medical condition...... The same as Thailand and anywhere else.

It would be good if the next time he has gone stiff next to Chao Phya River!

Normally people with a medical problem do go to a doctor unless it is the first time that the person has suffered from this particular medical condition. If people that have seizures have never been to a doctor then they have a big problem same as anyone with a heart complaint. There would not be many people who suffer from serious medical conditions that do not see a doctor for treatment.
