For those of you that enjoy an indian curry can recommend the new Taj Mahal restaurant on 3rd road opposite X-Zyte disco.

Tried a take away from there last night, chicken tikka marsala and couldn't fault it.

The chicken tikka was 270 baht then 50 baht for a naan bread and 50 for the boiled rice............ok 370 is a little bit on the dear side but the food was spot on.

While i was waiting for the takeaway they served (free) poppadums with 3 chutney/sauces.

The naan bread also came with a cucumber based sauce and an onion/garlic dish.

They cook the skewers of meat in a tandoor in view of you.....................and there was plenty, actually just finished the remainder off for lunch today.

They have full restaurant service also.

Edit.........just add the food prices are the same eat in or takeaway.

Just what is it about Indian restraunts in Pattaya/Thailand. ?

Chicken cost nothing. Onions cost nothing. Rice costs nothing.

and yet they want Bt 270 for Chicken Tikka.

And Bt 50 for a piece of naan bread, geezus !

At least when I go to a French joint I expect to get ripped off :o

I know one thing Naka............Taj Mahal and Saleem (Soi Boukhao where i went tonite) there is no comparision..............Saleem is typical ready made sauce <deleted> same as Nee Roys (Soi Chaiyapoon) and the Taj is prepared in front of you.

As for the price.............i think chicken tikka is always a little more expensive but that doesn't excuse the price of the rice or naans of course.

Above said, how much is an Indian in the UK these days?...........damm (sp?) sight more i bet!

Thanks for the tip Thaiflyer. I LOVE Indian curries. I was getting really hungry reading your post. :o

Are all the curries over 200 baht? What size serve do you get for that price? Do they have a nice sit down area? ....I'm not into takeaways.

I've seen an Indian restaurant at the beach end of Pattaya Klang (left side just before you hit the beach)...have you tried that?

What about the one along the beach? or the one on Soi 13/2 (I think it's that street) at the corner of 2nd road?

Agree Flyer, not all the same quality ... but there again it seems that the main difference between a Thai curry and an Indian curry is about Bt 220 :o

As for UK price, I left UK as a nipper before they even had Indian's.

Yep all the curries are 230 baht and upwards............lamb ones are a bit dearer............top of the range was a mixed seafood one at 890 baht from what i remember...........but the norm is about the 250-270 baht mark.

The place is a restaurant first and foremost and does takeaways as well.

They have tables in and outside and the place itself looked spotless.

Good size portions.

I actually went again last night but they were just closing.......this was at midnight..........thats how i ended up at Saleems in Soi Bourkhao (never again!).........off topic but while they were making the curry at Saleems i had a quick beer over the road at Noi's (where the Brit had his legs broke, see topic currently running) and there is no way you could wander round that bar and no one see anything.

Anyway.........back on topic..........give the Taj Mahal a go, you wont regret it.

(Ive no vested interest in the place by the way)

I know the other 2 places you mentioned but have never tried them.

Edit.....heres the link to the topic about the Brit with broken legs.........just incase anyone missed it........

Experience suggests that it will be a few months or so that we will be able to see if they keep up their standards. most of the Indian reastaurants in Pattaya seem to go downhill after a honeymoon period.

They all seem a bit dear too.

Had a take out for four in the UK earlier this month. Four main courses (Chicken Tikka madras,Chicken Madras,Lamb Ceylon and another lamb dish) two Naan's , 8 Popadums, 2 side dishes (veg Bhaji and another I can't remember) 3 Pilau rice and one plain boiled rice. Came to 32 quid for four people.
