KHON KHAEN, 25th January 2018 (NNT)-Around 10 million cubic meters of water have been released from Ubonrat Dam daily to preserve the ecosystems downstream and provide water for off-season rice growing activities in Khon Khaen province.

Director of the Nong Wai Water Transmission and Maintenance Office Songwut Kitworawut disclosed today that the objective of the water release was to provide water to a growing number of off-season rice farmers, sustain industrial activities and preserve the ecosystems around Lam Nam Pong Canal.

The dam will stop releasing the water in May to preserve the remaining water for household consumption when the country enters a season of lower rainfall. Ubonrat Dam currently has 1.8 million cubic meters of water or 78% of total capacity. Around 1.3 million cubic meters of water has been deemed usable.
